Yes,you should be concerned about that. By"in the government" I meant that she was a CIA operative hence "in the government" it doesn't matter who leaked the info. I just think "the government" should be able to explain what happened to the American public flat out. However they could'nt. Why?
When the act was passed, Congress had no intention of prosecuting a reporter who wanted to expose wrongdoing and, in the process, once or twice published the name of a covert agent. Novak is safe from indictment. But Congress also did not intend for government employees to be vulnerable to prosecution for an unintentional or careless spilling of the beans about an undercover identity. A dauntingly high standard was therefore required for the prosecutor to charge the leaker.
At the threshold, the agent must truly be covert. Her status as undercover must be classified, and she must have been assigned to duty outside the United States currently or in the past five years. This requirement does not mean jetting to Berlin or Taipei for a week's work. It means permanent assignment in a foreign country. Since Plame had been living in Washington for some time when the July 2003 column was published, and was working at a desk job in Langley (a no-no for a person with a need for cover), there is a serious legal question as to whether she qualifies as "covert."
I repeat my question: If you are so concerned about a breech of security, why aren't you concerned about Joe Wilson's blabbing all over Washington that his wife was a CIA operative?

I think it's reasonable to assume the President does know. How could he not? We don't know but I have to assume that given how many people do know the President would have needed to know and would have found out. How does this change anything or mean anything?
Looks like all that money Ted Turner gave him all those years was down payment on this trouble-making, Democrat-MSM-aiding crap.. I guess him getting his a$$ handed to him every afternoon by Begala and Carville service enough to liberal interests... he felt compelled to do this. He is a nefarious POS-- always has been.
It's not an issue of national security if a covert agent was not outed. A covert agent was not outed. Plame was not covert. Hence, no crime. Hence, this whole investigation is built on a house of cards. You can't cover up a crime that was never commited.

I notice your homepage features the Eisenhower "military-industiral complex" quote.IMHO history, if not historians, has not borne out that warning. Certainly there is danger there, of course - but historically the greater danger has been an antidemocratic, antirepublican Establishment which presumes to say, not merely that the pen is mightier than the sword, but that the sword is irrelevant. Which is countered by a quote from memory, source unknown: "We must respect our plumbers and our philosophers, or else neither our pipes nor our theories will hold water."
That Establishment is variously pleased to call itself "objective journalism" and "the Democratic Party." Inasmuch as its foundational premise is that "the masses" have no will apart from the sway of propaganda, it is the furthest thing from democratic. And in promoting the fatuous conceit of its own objectivity while promoting its own material and moral interests, it is the furthest thing from objective.

Just a light comment. The author said "pretty sure." Given the media bias, who knows. And no, I'm not sure the President does necessarily know. Maybe that's a naive viewpoint/opinion.
Then if she was not covert - there is no problem with this whole mess.
Like I said - this was a setup to get Bush's administration.
And, the press does not get a free ride to print anything they wish no matter what it reveals. If Kovak is not in trouble, if Mr. Wilson is not in trouble - then drop the whole thing. Apparently there is not much danger to anyone if only the one giving the info is guilty and the reporter is free to print it no matter how top secret the info is.
Just because something is told to a media person does not mean they are free of responsibility of leaks and only the ones giving the information are guilty. Does not make sense.
If no one cares what the press prints - then there is no crime in revealing confidential information to the press. Both are guilty if there are leaks.
Sounds as though old R is getting just a wee bit testy over this.
