The wife, myself and my 2 ½ year old daughter were in Florida for a week ..after scouting the C-USA and ACC football championship games we spent three days in Disney World for Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party and from a Christian point of view I must tell you how pleasantly surprised I was.
At all three parks we visited Magic Kingdom-MGM-Epcot, Christmas carols blared from the speaker- and many of them were religious hymns most of us will sing in church on Christmas Eve or the day itself Hark the Harrell Angels, What Child is this? and many more were heard so often I even pointed it out to my wife
Here was a real surprise on Monday we made our way through MGM- towards the popular thrill ride was set up they had a near life size nativity scene .like most churches the Christ child was not yet in the manger.
Anyway- thought Id pass that along.
"I wanted to see my Southern Miss Golden Eagles in it,"
Woot!!
I worked at Disney World in the Bicentenial parades. I think every teen that lives down there works there or thinks of working there at least once. (I am in Memphis now)
Uh, I thought capitalism was considered a good thing here at FreeRepublic.
First things first - I'm Jewish. That being said, a few years ago, my wife and I took the kids to WDW the week after Thanksgiving. I though it was incredible what they had done (and from what I hear they do most of it overnight) to show their "Christmas spirit". In general, I believe most people _are_ in a better mood this time of year (except for flaming libs). I've got no issues with people wishing me a "Merry Christmas" because I think they're just "sharing the joy". We'll actually be in the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day this year - I'm looking forward to it!
Remember the old hymn: "Gladly, The Constipated Cross-Eyed Bear."
It's sung to the same tune as "Gladly, the consecrated cross I'd bear."
I have never noticed this before. What is the proper day to put Christ in the scene?
Thanks! I was really AMAZED that we won. I'm always worried when we go to Hattiesburg. Ya'll really staged a comeback. My whole family was sure we were going to blow it.
I think the "proper" thing to do is place Him in the manger 12AM on 12/25/2005
The 25th, naturally!
Dropped from the top of the church. If He doesn't break, we have 8 more weeks of winter.
I believe He "shows up" on Dec 25 at midnight.
DOH!!! That makes sense.
Busch Gardens in Tamp does the same thing - Christmas songs, hymns and carols, as you described, audible through the PA speakers all throughout the park.
"Was this in conjunction with their famous Gay Weekend celebration?"
That weekend is not sponsored by Disney World. This celebration, which happens every year, is sponsored by Disney World.
That's why the boycott of Disney is so stupid. Official Disney has a nativity scene, religious carols, and all the Christmas trimmings.
The gays come to Disney World on their own. They are not sponsored in any way by Disney.
haha. I hear about Jesus being stolen all the time but I have never noticed He isnt in the manger untill his bday.
I think that is incorrect.....Disney started "gay week" a while ago....they were also the first company to offer "spousal" benefits to "life partners" of gay employees...
No, you are incorrect. The so called Gay Day was never officially sponsored by Disney. Search the archives here on freep for more detail.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if I came back from Disney World and had any money left.
have a great time- and check out Stiches' Great Escape, and if you go to Epcot- (please do), check out soaring over California. Very cool.
thanks for correcting me....glad I was wrong.
"I think that is incorrect.....Disney started "gay week" a while ago...."
Nope. Wrong. Disney does not sponsor the gay week thing at all. Those who come to it come on their own. There's an organization that sets it all up, arranges for hotel rooms, etc., but the people buy their Disney World tickets and go to the park, just like everyone else.
Several religious groups and national church organizations do the same thing during the year. Disney doesn't sponsor those, either.
However, they DO sponsor this Christmas celebration.
