TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

You won't receive flames from me. I'm way too fried from arguing the same points. Can you imagine Swat teams going from house to house, dragging families off to be deported? The Nazi comparisons we have today wouldn't even compare.

That's a ridiculous straw man. No one is proposing any such thing.

The criminal invaders will deport themselves when they are no longer welcomed in sanctuary cities, free health care and free education and other publically-funded benefits are denied to them, and they are no longer able to find an employer willing to risk committing the crime of hiring them. The invaders will go home. There will be nothing for them here.

Bush could have announced support for a voluntary deportation program for those who wish to qualify for any future guest worker program. But he didn't. Just give the criminal invaders a 3 month deadline to get the hell out and tell them that if they're caught here after that time, they will be deported and forbidden from any future entry or participation in any guest worker plan. Of course, the pre-requisite is locking down the border so that we actually control who is coming across.

Yes I can and it would work in some cases. But what would be more effective and less graphic would be to fine, jail, and seize assets of those who employ illegals. Make it so that it is economic suicide to hire one. Say seize the entire Tysons foods under the RICO act. No work for them they will deport themselves.

Stop making so much sense. You'll confuse the quislings.

We enforce immigration laws to some extent. We just don't have nearly enough officers working in this area to handle the case load. That's also true for many other types of crimes. Look at all the wild driving and speeding that happens every day on the highways (often with fatal consequences.) There are all kinds of criminals running around who've committted unsolved crimes because there aren't enough cops to investigate all the crimes. But I agree that it's time to tighten up on border security and make sure we know who's coming in here to work and make sure we run a background check on all guest workers and keep the criminals and terror suspects out.

And Tyco legally employs how many people who would just be out of a job? - tough luck for them. Oh I know maybe the Gov't can run it until we can get the company up and running again - this time paying "fair" wages. Next we'll close all the Walmarts too. Tough luck for those employees too. Of course that's extreme but seriously I do think we can address the problem without throwing thousands out of work and shrieking like Democrats with twisted panties.

GWB has not been so great himself. We should stop tolerating such poor leadership. As a once proud supporter, he has proved himself almost as inept as is critics charge him with.

One difference. The people the Nazis removed were not guilty of being in the country illegally. Most were sent to labor camps not the border. Most were honest working citizens who were supporting themselves without aid....... Tell me what countries in the world allow unrestricted illegal immigration? Check on the Aussies once and see how they handle it. You get caught in Australia illegally when they are done with you it is doubtful you will come back.

And if you noticed, the ONLY time he has seriously threatened to veto bills, they were defense procurement bills which protected the U.S. industry and infrastructure. And how often has he run interference for and rehabilitated the Clintons?

And think how many times, out of his own mouth, not just his aides, he attacks conservatives as bigots, or selfish, or as "vigilantes." Remember how he attacked Jerry Falwell who opined that, based on the embrace of anti-Godliness, our nation had lost God's protection? [Remember how Reagan eloquently put it: We should ask not whether God is on our side, but whether we are on His. By going after Falwell the way he did, it makes it clear that GWB was, in a strikingly Liberal Manner, defending the UnGodliness]

These kinds of attacks make it clear he is not only not conservative. He isn't moderate. So much for the "Big Tent". Real conservatives need not apply.

And to my mind, that calls his profession of Christianity into question as well.

Oh brother. I do take issue with the notion that America will ever "become what these people are running from".

Really? You need to pay more attention.

What is a Colonia?

Texas Secretary of State's Definition: The term "colonia," in Spanish means a community or neighborhood. The Office of the Secretary of State defines a "colonia" as a residential area along the Texas-Mexico border that may lack some of the most basic living necessities, such as potable water and sewer systems, electricity, paved roads, and safe and sanitary housing.

Among the border states, Texas has the largest number of colonias approximately 1,800 communities, with more than 500,000 residents. Sixty-five percent of all residents, and 85% of residents under the age of 18, were born in the United States. (aka Anchor babies) These Americans live in extreme poverty and often are unaware of the services that the United States and Texas can provide for them. Ninety-eight percent of the residents are Hispanic and speak little or no English.

(see photos - http://www-apps.niehs.nih.gov/outreach-education/News/spotarch/spot0503.cfm)

Welcome to the Colonias Home Page "One of government’s chief responsibilities is to help Texans with the greatest needs. The Secretary of State’s Ombudsman Program is a central part of our initiatives to assist needy Texans living in colonias. The program is helping to provide better roads, bring water and wastewater infrastructure to areas that lack these basic services, and improve the quality of life for some of Texas’ neediest citizens." - Governor Rick Perry

Most of them are on the books - just not enforced.

I've been saying that too.

control the border, enforce the laws, and get busy on the terrorists.

Place it in recievership under court control until it can be sold either as a whole or in pieces. It is done all the time. About ten years back the US government took over s house of illrepute in Nevada over taxes and ran it for a year or two.

Please take the time to sit down and make me a list of laws that we enforce and don't enforce so I can profit from breaking the law also...

Thank you! Worth repeating!

He is NOT doing what (I WANT!) eighty percent of the American people want but IS doing what the international socialists want.

He is NOT doing what (I WANT!) is his constitutional duty.

He is NOT doing what (I WANT!) what is necessary to preserve the Union.

He is NOT doing what (I WANT!) is necessary to defend the American culture.

I like your idea!

Sadly, GWB is a globalist and a joke of the tallest ordr at this point. Someone got to him shortly after we invaded Iraq and he has not been the same since.

Our country is changing for the far worse. As bad as I thought Cigar boy is, I am longing for the day we can get someone else in the White House. Even if a Rat wins, he or she will get nothing done, which is far better than the rubber stamp socialism and globalism of this admn.

One difference.

Of course I understand the difference between the Jews who were rounded up and illegas and you can make that point all you want but we are a visual society and the MSM would run those images non-stop. Soccer mom, grandma and joe college guy wouldn't see the difference that is obvious to you. I'm not arguing the right or wrong of the issue just the practical consequences. Any politician who would attempt such a thing would be out on their butt in no time. You might still applaud them for having guts, for standing up for what was right, etc, etc - but that politician would still be unemployed.

I have a strong intuitive sense and logical rationale that GWB will go down in history as one of our five greatest Presidents. But it will take 30 years after he leaves office for historians to reach that conclusion.

Good. Hopefully it won't be more than 25 cents a pound on chicken parts but then once you calculate what FICA will cost... chickens just might get expensive.

Do you honestly think that chicken producers are cutting consumers a price break just because they are using cheap labor to produce it? That is ridiculous! Chicken is sold at the profit maximizing price. Suppliers just pocket the ill-gotten money they save by using illegal labor as additional profits. Consumers don't see the savings.

The construction industry is increasingly dominated by illegals and real wages are falling. Has anybody noticed the cost of housing coming down? The developers are just pocketing the additional profits they achieve as a result of cheap illegal labor. They sell the house to the buyer at the highest price they can get and it has nothing to do with the cost of labor to build it. Consumers see absolutely no savings. It follows that they will see no price increases if the illegal labor disappears. The price of the house will be set by supply and demand and the developer will earn a lower profit.

But I agree that it's time to tighten up on border security and make sure we know who's coming in here to work and make sure we run a background check on all guest workers and keep the criminals and terror suspects out.

Statistically, we're not enforcing immigration laws to any extent. We're enforcing the border, somewhat, but interior enforcement is virtually non-existent. In 2002 only 13 fines were levied against employers of criminal invaders. In 2003, they only fined 124 employers. We have over 20 million criminal invaders employed somewhere in the United States with over a million coming in every year. 13 or even 124 fines is statiscally zero when compared to the number of crimes committed. We also have only about 300 agents assigned for interior enforcement for the entire United States. Do you get it now?

I agree that we should tighten up border security and run background checks on all guest workers. But, how do we do that when they're already here. I'm not totally against a guest worker program, but we need to put our priorities in order. First, we need to secure the border. Second, everyone here illegally needs to leave and apply for re-entry. Third, a guest worker plan would insist that all applicants apply from their home country and submit to mandatory background checks, health screening, and they have to have a responsible sponsor in the U.S. who will pay for any costs that the guest worker incurs and can't pay. Fourth, if we can track every cow down to the stall in the barn anywhere in the United States, we can track every guest worker or anyone here on a temporary Visa. If they don't like that kind of tracking, then they can stay home.

Any guest worker plan that allows people who are already here to participate equally with those who have respected our borders and laws will not work and is a reward to those who have broken our laws and violated our sovereign borders.

To: You Dirty Rats

If Bush gets his way on this, not only will it put the country on a track towards inevitable trouble in the future, but you can say hello to a large, even more powerful gov't.

BTW., the majority of Republicans and Americans do not support the President's complete failure on this issue since he took office, nor do they support amnesty.
