Missile Attack On Passenger Jet?

I heard on the radio this morning, that a pilot of a passenger jet departing LAX claimed to have narrowly avoided being hit by a missile. It was reported that the jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude & over the ocean when the event occurred. The news report further stated that authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."

I googled but found nothing. Anyone else have some info on this? I dont recall whether it was CBS or NBC radio news.

Sent e-mails just now to Drudge, Michele Malkin, FOX and my local talk show host that hosts the hour that I heard the report. Where now? Dept. of Defense? Ah, that will look good right up there next to their Able Danger fiasco. The covered up Atta and now they are going to cover up missiles being shot at our passenge planes?

Plus, if you fire it and you are over the ocean it kind of leaves you as a sitting target.

Why? Throw the launcher overboard, motor a few miles and toss a fishing line in. "Me, I don't know nothing about no missle".

Good work. I know nothing about commercial aviation, so I'm no help, but there are plenty of people around here that do. I just don't know specifically who they are. :(

History channel shows a clip periodically of the test model for the 707 doing a barrel roll at an air show. Pretty impressive.

The flight WAS an American Airline flight - flight # 621.

With the flight# date and time, finding the pilot and crew for a statement should be a cake walk for someone with some time.

The pilot is mistaken, what he really saw was a spark in the center fuel tank.
