Democrats fumed last week at Vice President Cheney's suggestion that criticism of the administration's war policies was itself becoming a hindrance to the war effort.

snip

This will be the MSM's new front in the War Against the Administration.

It's also a lie. Here's what Vice President Cheney actually said on this subject:

My remarks today concern national security, in particular the war on terror and the Iraq front in that war. Several days ago, I commented briefly on some recent statements that have been made by some members of Congress about Iraq. Within hours of my speech, a report went out on the wires under the headline, "Cheney says war critics 'dishonest,' 'reprehensible.'"

One thing I've learned in the last five years is that when you're Vice President, you're lucky if your speeches get any attention at all. But I do have a quarrel with that headline, and it's important to make this point at the outset. I do not believe it is wrong to criticize the war on terror or any aspect thereof. Disagreement, argument, and debate are the essence of democracy, and none of us should want it any other way...

...Recently my friend and former colleague Jack Murtha called for a complete withdrawal of American forces now serving in Iraq, with a drawdown to begin at once. I disagree with Jack and believe his proposal would not serve the best interests of this nation. But he's a good man, a Marine, a patriot -- and he's taking a clear stand in an entirely legitimate discussion.

Nor is there any problem with debating whether the United States and our allies should have liberated Iraq in the first place. Here, as well, the differing views are very passionately and forcefully stated. But nobody is saying we should not be having this discussion, or that you cannot reexamine a decision made by the President and the Congress some years ago. To the contrary, I believe it is critical that we continue to remind ourselves why this nation took action, and why Iraq is the central front in the war on terror, and why we have a duty to persevere.

What is not legitimate -- and what I will again say is dishonest and reprehensible -- is the suggestion by some U. S. senators that the President of the United States or any member of his administration purposely misled the American people on pre-war intelligence.

So, he very explicitly said that criticism of the policy was not a problem, he encouraged it.  What he decried, and what he rightly pointed out was "dishonest and reprehensible" was, in effect, lying about what was and wasn't done in the lead up to the war.  Now, extending this to troop morale:

The flaws in the intelligence are plain enough in hindsight, but any suggestion that prewar information was distorted, hyped, or fabricated by the leader of the nation is utterly false. Senator John McCain put it best: "It is a lie to say that the President lied to the American people."

American soldiers and Marines serving in Iraq go out every day into some of the most dangerous and unpredictable conditions. Meanwhile, back in the United States, a few politicians are suggesting these brave Americans were sent into battle for a deliberate falsehood. This is revisionism of the most corrupt and shameless variety. It has no place anywhere in American politics, much less in the United States Senate.

So, what could (note could) hurt morale is lying about why they are there and how they got there.  That is specifically destructive and a "deliberate falsehood" and "revisionism of the most corrupt and shameless variety." I think we can safely defend that premise, since what they are saying is demonstrably a lie.

This is the ultimate answer.  THEY ARE LYING.  It's provable.  Roll the video tape.  Read from the multiple official independent reports.

I repeat, THEY ARE LYING.  Everytime they open their mouths (and that includes "innocent" questions from the MSM) we have to (rhetorically) slam their faces into a concrete wall and scream at them "STOP LYING YOU SCUMBAG!!!"

They will begin their propoganda pieces tomorrow, with segments explaining to the public how RAT criticism is actually good for the troops and the war effort.

Yes, they certainly will.  But it will only work if we let it.  We must particularly push back at anyone who says "I'm tired of saying this" when pointing out the truth.  Telling the truth to liars is never tiring.  They will eventually get tired of being shown up as lying clowns.

Yes he did. Rockefeller admitted he was not up to the job, and that he failed to read the reports.

Actually, one of the more direct disagreements on the Fox panel was between Brit and Chris. In discussing the Dec 15 Iraq elections, Wallace said that the administration had claimed that establishing a democratic gov't/parliament was the key to security in Iraq so what's the excuse for the troops staying in Iraq? Brit said, wait a minute, no they didn't; establishing a functioning military has always been what the admin said was necessary for stability and security.

Only six had time to actually read the pre-war intelligence reports!

It's important to insert PRE_WAR to this. It does deserve a separate thread. IMHO, the fact that Murtha advised Clinton to pull out of Somalia is equally deserving of a thread.

Bottom line, these facts go to the heart of who do we trust to keep us and our children and grandchildren safe?

I sometimes wonder why I even ask. Levin is worthless and ignorant of anything past his party talking points. I wouldn't be surprised if he needed his aides to help him put his pants on each morning.

Check out the U.S. (only) casualties sustained in other wars these teens should be familiar with; Iraq's rate is quite low. Also, make sure they understand the "anti-war" folks forced the U.S. out of Vietnam, the North did invade and more than 1 million people died as a result. Our running from Vietnam has been cited by Osama was one indication of America's "paper tiger" weakness and why he believes he and his terrorists can win.

Also, if they're "old enough" perhaps you'd show them some of the mass graves from Saddam's reign and draw a comparison to the death camps of Nazism. This is a *just* war, fought only by volunteers and compared to comparable conflicts, the cost in American soldier's lives is low. It isn't that we're PRO-war, it is that we're pro-freedom, pro-justice and we're fighting for our nation's survival in the War on Terror and if Iraq falls to the terrorists, they'll be able to strike at the civilized world much easier through economics, have the means to create and deliver weapons of mass destruction.

I read that Scott Ritter and Christopher Hitchens will be debating in the coming weeks; I'd pay money to witness that event.

After the burger king allegations, I should be shocked that Ritter hasnt been shamed into being a hermit. But this media looks at sex scandals as a rite of passage..

Former CNN chief Eason Jordon (who publicly admitted in NYTimes that he was covering up Saddam's crimes before US brought him down) started a security company operating in war zones. He was FIRED from CNN for SMEARING American Soldiers in Davos. The other board members are - media mullah Ted Turner & Wesley Clark.

Funny, Foxnews military analyst joining hands with Eason Jordon, who was fired from his job for his anti-military comments.

In hiring Wesley Clark & Marvin Kalb, Fox ia also losing steam.

LOL, from what I just saw, I'd say you are right. Kudos to Chris Wallace, btw. I don't know if anyone noticed, but Levin was so furious that the hand holding his crib sheet of phony quotes was visibly shaking.

"403-3?"

That and the fact that there's a Newsweek article out that says that what Murtha did was a pre planned stunt.

"Wow, is this clown on drugs or what! He claims to be an 'Independent' and quotes John Conyers and seems to indicate that the coverup of the Republican's stealing the 2004 election goes up as far as John Kerry and Chris Dodd who won't talk about it to him. Huh?"

Yea, funny how most of the *independents* they get on seem to sound like left-wing wackos. If he wants to talk about REAL election-stealing, he should have a chat w Stefan Sharkansky and some of the Pubbies in WA state about last year's election and Fraudoire instead of Dino Rossi being in the Governor's office. There's been speculation that this has been going on for years (which is probably true) and that Slade Gorton, rather than Maria Can't-Do-Well should have really won the Senator's seat in 2000. That election was very close and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Dims pulled off some of their same shenanigans.

BTW - Anything ever come of the investigations in WI? I still believe that it should have gone to Pres Bush.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.), who is leading a spurious Democratic campaign that alleges President Bush misled the country into war, admitted last week that he did not read the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction programs that Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet prepared in 2002 at the request of Senate Democrats specifically so Congress would have up-to-date intelligence as it debated whether to authorize the Iraq war. The NIE was delivered to Congress at the beginning of October 2002, and Reid voted on Oct. 11, 2002, in favor of authorizing the war. The NIE...

That's easy. These dems loved and trusted President Bush and Vice President Cheney so much that they simply took them at their word. Now they feel betrayed. /sarc off.
