Wal-Mart is continuing to allow the Salvation Army to collect, so good for them.

But when I called Wal-Mart the other day, the woman answering the phone said: Happy Holidays, so I cheerfully said: Merry Christmas. Maybe after Thanksgiving they will start saying Merry Christmas, but I kind of doubt it. Maybe we should e-mail Wal-Mart and ask them to start saying Merry Christmas.

I take my grandkids to the kettles and the Marine Toy drive. Kids need to learn that it's about giving.

It's your right as someone who is "absolutely secular" to shop at a store catering to the secular.

I was just at Wal-Mart today trying to get one of those new xbox 360's (I failed).

It was good to see a Salvation Army Bell Ringer out front - Go Wal-Mart!

Here's a snippet from the link:

"'O Holiday Tree, O Holiday Tree'

Meanwhile, Sharp says Lowe's, a leading home improvement retailer, has joined Target and many other retailers that are striving to be "politically correct" this Christmas shopping season. He says the Lowe's stores are now selling fresh-cut "holiday" trees."

P.C. has gone too far!

I've never been annoyed by a Salvation Army bell ringer.

I think they just stand by their bucket and ring their bell.

Can't remember ever being asked to contribute.

Were you solicited by one?

"It was good to see a Salvation Army Bell Ringer out front - Go Wal-Mart!"

It sure is!! We usually give once when we see the bell ringers, but this time we gave coming in and going out. :)

The same libbies who claim to be compassionate are against the Salvation Army who help millions and millions of needy people.

Also the head of the Salvation Army gets less than $20,000 salary, while the head of the Red Cross gets around a $600,000 salary.

It's a no-brainer who cares more.

The religious conservatives make fools of themselves. This is about as stupid a boycott as I can ever remember. First of all, Target bans all solicitors and they do a lot of community charitable work, and they DO NOT support any homosexual agenda. Why don't the Religious conservatives use this energy to raise money for the Salvation army instead of boycotting a store for not bending to their agenda. Who gives a rats ass what some dumb store calls Christmas? If it's that important to someone they can pick out a retailer that says Merry Christmas. This boycott will have absolutely no impact on Target's bottom line and the boycott organizers will like impotent.

No Lowe's in my town and the Tarjay don't sell trees. Albertsons allows Salvation Army solicitors. Tarjey doesn't.

The boycott is having an impact. USA Today (11/16/05) announced that "Target alarmed investors by saying projected sales at stores open a year in November would miss the estimated 4% to 6% growth. Shares of Target fell $4.13 to $54.30." (A 7% drop.)

If the "season" is now about commercial shopping, to keep retailers from going bankrupt, instead of Christian tradition, then shouldn't the morally bankrupt store owners work out a better business plan than waiting until the final 2 months to turn a profit.

Especially when those sales are generated by high pressure buying ("you wouldn't want to deny your kids this", "buy now, figure out how to pay for it later") and many bait and switch ads ("5 at this price").

Something to consider when investing in the stock market.

Au contraire.

Target stocks have gone down 7%.

So who did you say was impotent??

Next time please do your homework before you post.

The sounds of those bells ringing was one off the BEST parts of Christmas for me growing up in San Francisco (back when SF was still a decent city). It was WONDERFUL to hear them echoing off the canyon-like walls of the buildings and see people putting their spare change in the red buckets. The Salvation Army is one of the few decent charitable organizations that actually does a lot of good work that most people will never hear about.

The BEST part about those bells, though, is that they supposedly drives commies & libs CRAZY!!!
