Was that Judges Guild or somebody else? Been a long time. Just had a visit from the former owner of the top game store in town, lots of trips down dweeb memory lane lately.

Happy Thanksgiving.

As promised, the response from the Post Awful - completely off the mark (so typical for them, huh?).

================================================= Dear USPS Customer,

We have a Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee made up of non-postal personnel who select all new stamps that we issue each year. Please send your suggestion to the following address:

Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee
Stamp Development
US Postal Service
1735 North Lynn St Rm 5013
Arlington VA 22209-6432
http://www.usps.com/communications/organization/csac.htm

Common suggestions for new stamps include stamps to honor a person. We'd like to point out that a person can only have a stamp issued in their image if they have been deceased for at least ten years. The only exceptions to this are stamps honoring a President of the United States.

We hope this information has been helpful and answered your question. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for visiting and supporting our web sites.

Could you make it easier and publish a list of NON-boycotted companies?

Sure, here it is:

Then how about a practicing Catholic ignoring the boycott?

Even as a protestant, I always found the phrase "practicing Catholic" funny. It seemed to always be a catch phrase for dissenters who put their personal opinions above immutable and unchangeable Church doctrine. Like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry bragging about being "practicing Catholics", all the while never letting their "faith" affect their decisions or actions regardless of how morally repugnant they were. To this day I've never heard an assenting Catholic use that phrase.

I've been shopping at Target for years and will continue to do so regardless of their decision to keep the Salvation Army bell ringers from the front of their stores.

I'm not surprised someone who brags about being a "practicing Catholic" would put their own self-interests above their princliples, assuming they even have any.

I donate every single charitable item I have to my local Salvation Army,

How "practicing Catholic" of you to limit your charitable giving exclusively to your used junk. You are certainly in good company in giving others your trash. President Bill Clinton is famous for donated his used underwear for the tax right-off.

but I refuse to stop shopping at Target.

I would guess that there are many other behaviors you refuse to stop doing because you find them inconvenient, regardless of their moral, political, or economic implications.

Just as other people here have the freedom believe one thing, the people at Target have the freedom to believe another.

Yes, the question is whether to support someone else's actions with your discretionary spending. A "practicing Catholic" probably would not see any problem with anyone's actions, regardless of how overtly anti-Christian they are.

I'm certainly not saying the boycott is wrong. Go for it.

That's the most morally relativistic thing I've heard in a long time.

I just have too many reasons not to follow it.

Selfishness is a surprisingly honest excuse for your admittedly unprincipled behavior.

So, while I understand the strength of all of your convictions, I don't share them.

Not surprising at all. I doubt you could share any convictions with anyone since it is so doubtful that you have any.

Christmas does not mean RETAIL for me.

Nor I suspect does Christmas mean anything profoundly religious to you, either.

What these stores believe in or don't believe in doesn't mean anything to me.

Exactly. When one lacks principles, the actions of others are meaningless.

They are a means to an end.

Thank you for confirming my working hypothesis about self-proclaimed "practicing Catholics". Catholic doctrine has always explicitly condemned the concept of a means justifying an end, but I wouldn't expect someone like you to know that or even care if you did.

Could someone please give me a list of the stores who are including Christ in Christmas this year?

So far I know of Sears, K-mart, Homedepot, Walmart, and Target.

I helped edit & proofread the game rules and modules.... was in on the ground-floor of the Twilight: 2000 series. Interestingly my son has turned out to be a gamer. I didn't play them much, but really enjoyed working at this company. The "dress code" was very loose and bottled Pepsi was brought in by the case load :-).

In a couple of posts earlier in this thread, Coldwater Creek and Bath & Body Works were identified as using "Christmas" in their advertising materials.

I also enjoyed going to the GameCon's to work the GDW booth. It was fun "people-watching" for sure - lots of "characters" attending the GameCon's.

This is so bogus.

Last Sunday, ads from Sears, Walgreens and Target:
-holiday trees
-holiday lights
-holiday trimmings etc

If they are just holiday trees then why not sell them on Easter? Why not put up the holiday lights on the 4th of July.

I don't hear anyone pushing to rename menorahs as holiday candlesticks!

And more often then not this is defended in the name of diversity. Diversity of a minuscule minority.

Diversity does not a tradition destroy.

Got this in my e-mail today about Target from American Family Association:

In an effort to get Target to include "Christmas" in their in-store promotions and retail advertising for next year's (2006) season, we wrote Chairman Robert Ulrich. We told Chairman Ulrich that we knew it was too late to change his in-store promotions and retail advertising for this year. We asked him if Target would assure us that the company would make Christmas an integral part of their promotions and advertising next year.

We told Chairman Ulrich that if Target would honor our request, we would encourage our supporters and others to shop at Target. But we also said that if he refused, or did not respond, we would ask our supporters to boycott Target.

How did Chairman Ulrich respond to our request? He did not respond at all! Chairman Ulrich sent a clear message—Target will continue to ban "Christmas."

* * *

ATTENTION! Expect Target To Try To Confuse You

When you call Target, they will no doubt try to confuse you. You may be told their employees are free to greet people with a "Merry Christmas." You may be told that they support the Salvation Army. You may be told many things in order to confuse you.

Therefore, ask this one simple basic question and don't allow them to confuse you. "Do you use the term 'Christmas' in your in-store promotions developed by Target (not products you have for sale) and do you include the term 'Christmas' in your retail advertising?"

Target refuses to use "Christmas" in their in-store promotions or in their retail advertising. If you are told they do, you are being mislead.
