I hesitantly confess a bit of ambivalence about the death penalty, except in these kinds of cases. Being a dad changes one's perspective.

Exactly. I would offer why these cases should be on the tube more than they are. The way in which this stagnates is one reason the death penalty isn't quite as effective as a deterrant as it could be. It is time to take this to the next level. In cases where there is no doubt, like this one, he should be executed immediately.

Lets start sending the RIGHT message to these monsters that go after children.

"Aren't there a lot of good sized pythons slithering around Florida looking for something to put the squeeze on?"

Yes, there are! Not a bad idea at all.

I have always said, and as God as my witness, if it were my child, there is not a rock or corner on the face of this Earth the SOB could hide from me. He, or she, would pray to be put in old Sparky compared to what I would do to them. Carlie's mom showed tremendous restraint in the courtroom. I could have never done it, every guard in that room would've had to pull me off of him!
Since he didn't bother to take the stand in his own defense, I say they should cart him straight to the death bed and hook the man up! Little Carlie didn't get an appeal, this lowlife doesn't deserve one.

As Americans devastated by another child abducted raped and killed, we need to understand the culture that permits these atrocities.

Carly Brucia was taken off the streets.

Polly Klass' killer entered her home. Police had appreheneded him after the killing, but had to let him go so as not to abrogate his "civil rights."

Shasta Groney’s abductor (and the killer of her brother and mother) was so arrogant and sure of himself, he brought Shasta to public places, restaurants and stores, figuring he had lax laws on his side.

Several facts seem clear:

(1) We are a culture saturated with political correctness. Schools inculcate children with PC, insisting they cannot criticize or disparage any kind of deviant behavior.

(2) American children day after day are totally sexualized through the schools, through the media, by Hollywood films, TV, and music.

(3) We are a culture permeated with an anything-goes moral relativity that is antagonistic to traditional morality to the point of litigation by the ACLU to silence those with moral views.

What should be done?

(a) Parents must find out what schools are teaching their children. So-called K-12 school Family Life programs are little else but sexualization methodologies, uncritical of deviant behavior, brainwashing children into every kind of sexual aberration. Most of these programs are sponsored by Planned Parenthood International, a global organization underwritten with our tax dollars that considers sexual deviation to be acceptable.

(b) Closely allied with Planned Parenthood is the North American Man Boy Lovers Association (NAMBLA---- a leading pedophile group), that actively lobbies for the removal of laws against having sex with children. Pedophilia is the predominant sexual choice of homosexuals, at the same time, we, as a nation, give homosexuals special rights the rest of us don't have.

(c) The tyranny of political correctness must be eliminated, when to even hint at criticism against aberrant behavior is considered a “hate crime.”

Clearly, child abductions, rapes and and killings by pedophiles are aided and abetted by a culture-at-sea, loosened from its moral bulwark.

Well, if that's the case, I'm all for life with no parole. Put him in general population, and "life" gets precipitously shorter, I'd venture to guess!

Yeah, remember the guy in Wisconsin (no death penalty) the cannibal - Jeffrey Dahmer? He only lasted a couple weeks I think. They killed him right away.

Good.

First, the number of innocent people who actually go to trial for criminal offenses is practically zero.

That has to be one of the silliest statements I have EVER read. Where do you get that idea?

How many convictions as a percentage of cases have been overturned?

Far less than 1%.

And the vast majority of overturned convictions are overturned on technicalities - custody of evidence, improper mirandizing, procedural flaws, etc. - not because the defendant was innocent.

And, as Robert Morgenthau showed us in the Central Park rape incident, people who are totally guilty can be proclaimed innocent after the fact - in other words, some of those overturned convictions were falsely overturned.

Apparently you watch far too much TV. My wife was a criminal attorney and she'll tell you that Law and Order is just a TV show.

Agreed...

..and from statements made..(though brief) and her demeanor, I think Carlie's mom will use this opportunity to tighten the laws on the books, and perhaps help create new laws.

She was articulate and nuanced....we might see reform from this.

Isn't Everything too good for this one and death is just the most fitting punishment we can give him?
