The teachers of little girls in Thailand that have been beheaded and terrorized should be on the list.

Victor writes:
And it is no accident that we don’t have a means to wean ourselves off Middle East oil or as yet stop Iran from becoming the second Islamic nuclear nation.

A great essay, but he errs with regard to Iran and nuclear weapons.

We _have_ "the means" to halt Iran's nuclear ambitions, once and for all.

What we _do not_ have is the WILL to do so; it is lacking among the ruling politcal elites (Mr. Bush included), and lacking among the American people at large.

By the time both muster the will and intestinal fortitude for the mission at hand, it will probably be too late.

I guess that you CAN take that statement two ways.

I see the appeasement in it. What is the other meaning?

These vermin must be eradicated, not integrated.

All 1.5 BILLION Muslims? You do realise that when you say things like this you are playing into the hands of the terrorists?

Instead, Western parlor elites are still arguing over whether there were al Qaedists in Iraq before the removal of Saddam Hussein, whether the suspicion of WMDs was the real reason for war against the Baathists,

That hits the Dummycrats right between the eyes.

This whole article definitely needs to be read into the congressional record.

"The next Presidential election is going to be incredibly important."

Yes.

As Hanson eloquently observes, the fate of the world depends upon the recognition, by its people, of both the identity and the seriousness of the threat.

The seriousness cannot be overemphasized.

Something has definitely gone terribly wrong here at home, and unless this wrong is corrected--and fast!--the results will definitely be tragic.

"Politically correct Westerners" are decadent.

"Parlor elites" and the Western "Newsmedia" seriously mislead and confuse the public.

The Left serves as de facto enablers of those who pose the most dangerous threat.

The people of the world appear to be steadily awakening to the seriousness and identity of the threat, but they have much to overcome: the profoundly decadent yet powerful Left and its relentless propaganda, which seriously impede the ability of the people of the world to respond effectively, exactly what they must do--and immediately.

BTW, if anyone doubts Hanson's understanding of what's at stake, read his excellent book A War Like No Other.

...nations that intrigue with jihadists must be identified as the enemies of civilization. We often forget that there are now left only four major nation-states in the world that... allow radical Islamists to find sanctuary. If Pakistan were seriously to disavow terrorism and not see it as an asset in its rivalry with India and as a means to vent anti-Western angst, then Osama bin Laden, Dr. Zawahiri, and their lieutenants would be hunted down tomorrow. If...Saudi Arabia would cease its financial support of Wahhabi radicals, most terrorists could scarcely travel or organize operations. If there were sane governments in Syria and Iran, then there would be little refuge left for al Qaeda...

Western parlor elites are still arguing over whether there were al Qaedists in Iraq before the removal of Saddam Husseinliberal society...At some point this Western cannibalism becomes not so much counterproductive as serving the purposes of those who wish America to call off its struggle against radical Islam.

Most Americans think that our present conflict is not comparable with World War II, in either its nature or magnitude. Perhaps — but they should at least recall the eerie resemblance of our dilemma to the spread of global fascism in the late 1930s.

Hanson has it: After failing to confront Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan until Pearl Harbor on 07 Dec 41 - because of, yes, isolationists in America - we were thrust into a catch-up war in which we, by the end of the war, suffered 405,000 U. S. military dead.

Six thousand U. S. Marines killed on Iwo Jima alone.

The toal WWII dead (killed) throughout the world: 60 million.

Is this what it felt like to be a Roman when the Huns were at the gates? They appeased for as long as they could, then it seems they rolled over and died.

Where exactly is the author's model for "integrating the Muslim community"?

Perhaps he is hoping for Ann Coulter's solution.

Ann's solution is the best I have heard to date.

This situation is starting to coalesce globally as VDH points out. A beat-down of the Iranian mullahs by a coalition of nations is the best answer I can think of. They are the lynchpin to all this jihadi crap. If the Chinese and Russians might get on board perhaps with some reassurance from the US that they can get in on the oil deals in the aftermath with a new regime. If not, they can lose those deals altogether.
