McPain is so far in the middle that he doesn't stand for anything. Let's see how wishy-washy that he will be on the filibuster.

Iowa republican activists need to put the pressure on Hagel because Hagel wants to run for president and thinks he can win by being moderate. He needs to know that republicans in Iowa will have a long memory come caucus time.

This is a longtime friend of Specters -- all bets are off on the nuclear option. Think there are enough votes to confirm this one that no nuclear option will be needed. When Senators Graham and DeWine immediately got on board, McCain better get on board or get out of the way.

hope that's what Frist and the WH are telling McPain, not just us peons. I also hope they're telling Specter if he likes that chairmanship, a vote for the Nuke Option is required.

It's not up to the WH. It's up to us. This is our fight. We wanted it. We got it. We cannot coast waiting for THEM. We need to melt the DC phone lines for the next 48 hours. This is the party loyalty vote of the life time. Anyone not with us may as well join the otherside.

McCain is thinking along the same lines as you he can dismiss any inclination for ever occupying the Oval Office. This is not arguable.

No flex on this. Party Loyalty vote of a life time. Anyone not with us may as well switch parties cause they is DONE here.

I have to say that I am really disappointed in the Republican women....I don't think that ANY of them is pro-life...in the conservative sense of the word...

Liddy Dole is, but she is the only one.

Here's something just as important as McCain's opinion. I wonder if Jay Leno will have "The Dancing Alitos", like the running gag dancing Judge Itos he had on his show during the OJ trial.

If Hagel has any hope in 2008 Hagel has only hope of embarassing his sorry butt in 08

YES. but if you tell him that, he has no reason to vote WITH us. Not every fact needs to be verbalized.

The grunts in Nebraska should put ton and ton of pressure on Hagel... Make this guy feeling

You can put pressure on too. Call his office. Politely inform him you are a Republican and will NOT be voting for any candiate in 2008 that gives any less then 100% to get Judge Alito Confirmed. Anyone with ANY aspirations for 2008 NEEDS to show their steel on this one. Sorry if that means they will not be on the Sunday Talk Shows for a while. The "Journalists" do not nominate in 2008. WE DO.

Bingo. I received a the following from Jay Sekulow from the American Center for Law and Justice sent out this email this morning:

Dear xxxxxxx,

The moment President Bush named Judge Samuel Alito to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor ... the opposition sounded off!

Here's what they are saying:

This is a nomination based on weakness, not strength.

-Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass

... a nominee guaranteed to cause a bitter fight.

-Ralph Neas, People For the American Way

Here's what we are saying:

The President has delivered exactly what he said he would; Judge Alito is the person we need for the job!

So today, as we launch this nationwide campaign, FORWARD this email to your entire address book and add your name to our PETITION TO SUPPORT JUDGE SAMUEL ALITO - which will be sent with tens of thousands of others to the Senate Judiciary Committee. We must urge the Committee to stand strong against the mounting opposition and do its work well.

Judge Alito is a ''top tier'' judicial pick. He is a strong conservative with a lengthy track record of interpreting the Constitution, not legislating from the bench.

In more than 30 years of service, he has shown a mastery of the law, a deep commitment to justice and equality - and great personal character.

After 15 years of service at the U.S. Department of Justice, Judge Alito was nominated by President George H. Bush to the federal bench and unanimously confirmed by the Senate. He has been called one of the legal profession's ''best'' with ''exemplary'' judicial qualifications.

But this nomination has invoked strong opposition from groups like People For the American Way, Planned Parenthood, and others - because they know that the next Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States will play a pivotal role in major decisions regarding religious freedom ... abortion ... pornography ... and more.

''Smear'' campaigns ... public intimidation ... filibuster ... all of these could threaten the nomination of this fine and well-qualified candidate.

Please stand with us today! Our legislative and legal teams and I are deeply involved - working with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Our Washington, D.C., office - across the street from the Supreme Court and down the street from Capitol Hill - positions us perfectly as this battle wages on.

But we need YOU to back us up and unite your voice with hundreds of thousands of Americans!

Do not close this email until you have signed our PETITION TO SUPPORT JUDGE SAMUEL ALITO - to lend your voice and influence to our nationwide campaign. Send this email on to your friends and family members today!

Don't let them DERAIL Judge Alito's nomination!

I agree we need to do our part, but we can't threaten Specter (unfortunately one of my senators) because the WH stepped in when we had him on the ropes in the primary and then again after he shot his mouth off about what he would or would not do as chairman of Judiciary, and saved the sucker twice. It's up to them to yank his chain because he isn't running again and we can't impose any party discipline on him by threatening his precious chairmanship. We can burn up his phone lines, but he will more than likely tell his staff to be rude and hang up on us as he does sometimes, or just tell them to take the phone off the hook. He's not likely to treat a call from Bush in the same manner unless he's planning to change from RINO to Democrat in short order.

If Liddy Dole is pro-life, I wish she would be more vocal. All we ever hear is Susan Collins rambling on and on...we never hear from Dole..

Do you know Specter's position on the nuclear option? I get the feeling he would be for it if there were only 8 judges on the court where there would be a 4-4 tie. But I think with O'Connor on the court he would vote against it. I know he has known Alito for 20 years so hopefully that will be taken into account.

I definately think the dems will fillabuster Alito. The money would dry up from their left wing DU donors if they didn't. Reid's tone today was very telling.

She's the quietest woman in the Senate. Sometimes I forget she is there.

My source for saying she is pro-life is she voted against the "sense of the senate" resolution upholding Roe.

My bet is on Specter voting for the nuclear option on this particular nominee because they go way back. That's the ace in the hold. I have a hunch that Alito has been on the frontburner for sometime for SCOTUS.
