Per Fox News...
Bernard McQuirk from the Imus program just mentioned that his nicname is "Scalito." Someone else on the thread as already mentioned it. Let the games begin.
He would be the FIFTH Catholic of the nine on Scotus.
On Fox it's already started: "The President has pandered to the most extreme wing of his political party..blah, blah, blah"
Nuke time!!!
"Welcome to the party, pal!"
Although he's a frequent dissenter and not at all afraid to disagree with his colleagues, Alito's opinions are usually devoid of passion. And his tone during oral arguments is probing but always polite -- a sharp contrast from the often-caustic tone adopted by Scalia both on the bench and in his dissents.
Oddly enough, the "Scalito" nickname seems to have caught on even among some conservatives who appear to use it as a compliment.
Talking about the Gang of Fourteen now on Fox & Friends... Can we count on the RINOs among us when the chips are down?
my local, (PA) news says the DNC will fight this because he is TOO conservative..... LOL
He may not have been my first choice, but I'm pleased with Alito.
LOL. You are frisky this morning. I see that Jonathan Alter will appear on Imus shortly, possibly to call for the resignation of the VP :)
With Alito's dissent on Planned Parenthood v. Casey I don't see how he is any less likely to provoke a filibuster. The dance in the Senate is all about abortion, when you cut right down to it.

Intellectual flatus from the mind of Ellis Hennican....
Let's hope the spinedefective RINO's in the Senate will toe the line on this nomination...Specter's take will be interesting...

This pick of Alito is orders of magnitude better than the pick of Miers. NOW the country will have the right debate - that is, if the GOP is up to the task of expressing why a conservative jurist is NOT an issues advocate. A conservative Court only returns the issue to the people, it does not "finally decide" the issue for them.
Well- it wouldn't really matter in one way what his religious faith is...the libs would tear into him:)
You're being too kind ;-)
Let's see how many bridges the pundits are willing to burn. I'd guess they finally jump on the bandwagon. If not, here is where I think they'll complain.
Coulter will say that Bush should have consulted her first and that candidate X was a better choice. Frum will be ticked that Alito is opposed to first trimester abortions (Canuck Frum is pro-abort). Krauthammer will moan and groan about Alito's views on stem cells.

WASHINGTON Oct 31, 2005
President Bush is nominating Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, The Associated Press has learned, choosing a long-time federal judge embraced by judicial conservatives to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
The word yesterday was that he might announce his choice Sunday. This takes everything else off the table for the chattering class - Right Now. Smart move
ALITO IS A RINO!
BUSH IS A RINO!
