I listen to NPR early AM (yeah, I know, it really wakes me up, LOL.)

Anyway, to hear Cokie Roberts talk about Bush, you'd think he was running for a third term.

She's "worried" he's alienating black and hispanic voters and therefore, that's why he's going to his base with the Alito nomination because that's "all he has left."

I'm yelling at the radio, "He's not running for President again...he doesn't need their votes!"

I'm glad another woman wasn't nominated. Don't want every USSC seat assigned an affirmative action minority status from here to eternity.

Assuming the Republican Senators show a spine and prevent WWIII inside the party. They have nowhere to run now. The Democrats on one side screaming NO! the base on the other screaming YOU BETTER!

The president must be smiling while enjoying his morning coffee today.

Unadulterated baloney. I love a good fight and want the Republicans to explain the facts of life to the country. So far, they've been more than spineless.

If Reid can't stop this he's going to look very weak.

Philadelphia is the common bond of Alito and Spector, iirc.

And I'd say that bond is about as strong as dry leaves.

That has driven me nuts also. I think because Clinton never stopped campaigning the MSM has come to expect that from the President.

This is an Excellent pick. I was very opposed to the Miers pick, but this will bring me back to the "reservation".

I Said: BRING IT ON, KENNEDY! BRING IT ON, HILLARY! Let's have this fight already. The American people will agree with Alito - and Rehnquist - that fathers should have that right.

You Said: But take the argument one step back - Alito and Rhenquist are saying that the people could decide this issue the other way, but need to get it by the legislature.

I Say Correct! The state had passed a law giving fathers the right, but activist judges tried to take that right away, despite dissent from Alito and Rehnquist on two different courts. The state passed its law presumably because the people wanted the law. We will win this argument in fly-over country. BRING IT ON, I SAY! Bring it on, abortion-crazy Dems!

Let's ride towards the sound of the guns.

I like the sound of that. Run away, and you will live. Stay and fight, and you may die. But only those who are willing to fight will live in freedom.

"Create a phony strawman and then rail against the choice. On what basis do you infer that conservatives are or are perceived to be against a woman being nominated to the SCOTUS?"

Based on a statement made by Laura Bush. And BTW, did GW ever dispute what she said?

"Conservative opposition to the Miers' nomination had nothing to do with gender. Re Brown: From what I have read and heard, Janice Rogers Brown was not the Conservatives overwhelming choice for the nomination." [snip]

Well let's see: Hannity, Ann Coulter, Rush, Savage, and Laura Ingraham all spoke very highly of Janice Rogers Brown. And Laura Bush dropped her gender stink bomb. And Team Bush allowed that stink bomb to linger. What member of the Bush team broke out the lysol? How much was dispensed?

But I'm supposed to not say anything about a man being chosen? Why not? I'm not saying he's a bad choice. I'm just pointing out that Bush may have factored this choice in. And I'm curious how firmly he will stand by his man when the left goes at him.

Sure people should feel good, but to get it right: feel good about THEIR accomplishment. This is our chance, as many are saying. They are saddled up and ready to fight. The question I have, is Bush ready to fight as well? I'm not so sure.

Well nobody can have that same way of dissent as Scalia. Scalia's dissents are often, in a way, humorous (at least to me) and blistering. That's one thing I like about the guy.

However, the guy is a reliable vote and is at least committed to the Constitution which is more than I felt Miers would have had.

Bottom line: Good pick. We can whine he won't be as colorful of a guy as Scalia, but who can be?

If he gets confirmed and then ANOTHER SC seat opens can you imagine how nuts the MSM/Dems will go?

Imagine Justice Stevens or Justice Ginsberg retires, and the replacement is Luttig...The new balance: 5-4 conservative.

Go take your religious oaths and lithmus tests to DU. Would you prefer an "evangelical liberal" to a conservative Hindu or Buddhist who had a track record?

The worldwide Zionist conspiracy, the worldwide Freemason conspiracy, and the worldwide atheist Socialist conspiracy are outraged by and incensed at the worldwide Papist conspiracy over this nomination and the Romish tilt of the supreme court in the never ending Fabian fight over the soul of America.

(just a little joke)

"I see this as nothing short of a battle for the soul of our country. The founding fathers must have stopped turning and smiled today."
.................................................
exactly!!. Lets get it on. If they can't teach US Government in Public schools than Let the people get educated by this fight. I have no doubt we will win.
The left will be destroyed by this appointment IF Bush and Conservatives have the courage to show America the Big government left is a "Dead" ideology.
