Per Fox News...
I find it an interesting dynamic that if Alito is confirmed they will hold the majority of the high court.
What's with this link at the top of each page? (Reid: Apologize! Fire Rove! Do not appoint Alito! Bush: Up yours, pal!)
I'm too lazy to peruse 2000+ posts to figure this out. TIA . . .
I don't think it makes sense either. RINOs are nice to have, but not part of a stable majority. That stable majority should come from defeating red senators from blue states.
Next up is the supposed weak on crime gambit because he voted to grant habeas to a black inmate on death row. In Williams v Price Alito sided with the majority in granting Williams a writ after state courts had refused to consider the testimony of a witness who stated that a juror had uttered derogatory remarks about African Americans during an encounter in the courthouse after the conclusion of the trial. Here, I believe Alito demonstrates wisdom.
The more I read about Alito the better I like him.
My only remaining question is the RTKABA. Sketchy there and I don't support anybody who doesn't support that right.
it's gonna pass... and there's not a damn thing the dems can do about it. Bush has just deflated them with miers and then throws this nominee, rallying the conservatives stronger than ever.
Same here.
Too many suppositions...lol.
Stevens should be the next to go. I hope it's before '08 elections.
Why would the fight over JRB be any worse?
__________
Because JRB is a black woman, which goes right to the base of the Dimocrat Party. That's why they see her as such a threat: She might add some credibility among blacks and women to the Pubbies. They don't want us to become the first to put a black woman on the SCOTUS. They DID NOT want to have to oppose her.
God forbid there be a conservative black woman in the country!
I believe Dayton is not running for re-election.
Word is that Nelson may change parties. He's a pretty conservative Dem.
Age is a better reason to stay than to leave, unless one is incapacitated by ill health. The late William Rehnquist suffered from cancer, yet was able to carry out his duties. And he did so quite well.
The more the merrier. ;') Good heavens, more than 1000 messages in a today thread.
Whoops. Should have known you'd have been here already. :')

Herein lies the strategery. I still contend that nominating Miers was designed to take abortion and religion off the table at the Alito hearings. The RATS didn't complain about Miers pro-life stance so how can they complain about Alito's?
Bush wants this confirmation to be about the law, period. And now he has that fight.
I feel really, REALLY good about Alito's nomination this morning, as good as I felt about HM's withdrawal last week. Ever since the election last Nov 2, 2004, we conservatives & Christian evangelicals have had very little to cheer about from Bush or the GOP.
But right now, I'm not very worked up about why Bush didn't nominate Alito in the first place, even though I wish he had (or Janice Rodgers Brown REALLY REALLY would have been great as well). However since you bring up the subject I think it was more or less a bone headed misconception on President Bush's part trying to slip a stealth nominee in and avoid a fight with the DemonRATS. Most conservatives rallied against HM nomination, and thankfully she withdrew and finally we have the constitutional battle with the DemonRAT B@$t@#ds and RINO's that we have needed & wanted for 30+ years.
There's also a very good article in Human Events Online that has a lot of merit as to why President Bush went with Harriet Miers in the first place.

If they can do that then the quorum can also vote on a nominee with out a hearing if they want.
Thanks for the link!
GWB got to appoint the Chief Justice, and now will appoint another justice; both, alas, are replacing conservatives, rather than the scummy shills who are far too numerous on the Court.
However, he'll be on the job for another 3 1/2 years, so it's possible that he'll get still another appointment. Or two.
