And the idea that such a thing would be done in broad daylight to a Supreme Court nominee exists only in the ravings of your fevered brain.
Absolutely not. To think otherwise is to enage in futile fantasy.
Awesome pick!
Agreed. I see republican senators from overwhelming blue states as gravy. They give you the majority which even in the hands of Frist and Lott is very useful.
We should push for full blown conservative senators in all of the very Red states. The battleground states can be somewhat moderate conservatives (PA, OH, etc) and the very blue states (MA, VT, etc) are just gravy. Only full blown conservatives should be given committee chairmanships though.
I guess it's possible, but I sure hope he doesn't do that.
I am trying to email him... but his email servers, is probably MELTING right now.... because is not giving the the webpage
This is a GOOD SIGN you boys and girls are doing your homework! :)
By the way, we should also contact/email Frist!... I think he was aware all along of the gang of 14, and he just played along with them.... you know, the old "wink, wink,"
Great pic! No doubt in my mind that's exactly how "W" feels this morning.
tired of laundry, love your screen name--wish I'd thought of it (but it would have been too late anyway).

His most recent cases are not as good as Casey and Schundler. Looks like he sided with a "gay" student who was taunted and a black death row inmate.
And depending on the curcumstances, there is not necessarily anything wrong with a Judge finding in favor of a gay teen or a black death row inmate. I'm a Christian and do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle, but if a gay teenager was being relentlessly harassed by other teens, then he deserves protection and the right to make his own life choices without being persecuted for it. And I am all for the death penalty, always have been, always will be, proud to be in Texas where we fry em up more than any other State, but if some death row inmate was abused or was not allowed due process, then he deserves protection under the law also. A blanket statement that Alito isn't a conservative because he found in cases like that is stupid and foolish.
Conservatives decide based on the LAW, not whether they approve of the lifestyle of those involved in the case. That's what LIBERALS do. They only support those they agree with. When was the last time the aclu defended a Christian student or employee that was harassed at school or the workplace because of their Christian complaint. NEVER!!! I think that says it all.
That won't happen - it would take at least 6 Republicans (probably more since there will likely be a few Democrats voting for him) to vote against him on the floor.
California was a very different state when Reagan won.
The road to success in the very blue states is to run as a fiscal conservative/social libertarian. That is how Arnold won in California.
A hardcore social conservative just isn't going to win in those states.
Are there states where the reverse is true? (Having to run as a strong social conservative, but maintain a fiscally moderate or even liberal platform)
I couldn't agree more. I live in a red state that is rapidly going blue and work in a blue state that is bluer than blue.
We'll see. But I would also point out that Bush was governor of Texas for one and a half terms, and appointed a great number of people, and I don't think anyone would say that Texas courts, on the whole, are squishy. 8) ALmost nine years of appointing Judges and not one identifiable liberal or squishy moderate yet. It doesn't take that long to determine a judge. A good look at the first year of decisions does tend to indicate the pattern of the judge. kennedy, o'conner, and suiter for example. They never had a year where they were as conservative as they were thought to be. They were liberal to moderate from the get go.
Yep. Promise to get pork from the FEDs (lots of welfare up here), and promise to get the social hot button issues back into the state venue, the LIBs control that.
But the Republican party apparatus in Maine is a closed club - McKernan and Company.
Isn't the Catholic church the largest single religious denomination in the USA? (Not that religions are entitled to proportional representation any more than sexual or racial groups). My point is that if you picked lawyers by lot you might end up with a balance that has a lot of Catholics. I don't care what religion he is, I think he is a better nominee than Miss Miers (although I could certainly support her for a District Court or Circuit Court of Appeals).
d.o.l.
Criminal Number 18F
Well said. Sure I would have liked someone with an evangelical Christian background, but that sure is no reason not to support Alito. He's an AWESOME pick and a good conservative Christian man.
