This fight will do nothing but give the democrats painful tummy aches for MONTHS to come, and when DeLay is proved innocent and restored to the Majority Leader of the House, they'll be in even bigger trouble. The joy at getting another Scalia / Thomas on the SC, and the retribution to come from the liberal attempt to criminalize conservatism by trying to politically assassinate DeLay, will serve to give them a HUGE defeat in '06 I predict. In the coming months conservatives will be energized, and libs will be frantic frothing radical fringe wackos heading to next November, just like they've been for the past six years.

His most recent cases are not as good as Casey and Schundler. Looks like he sided with a "gay" student who was taunted and a black death row inmate.

Seriously, RNC is going to need to get out in front of this one which I am sure they will -- I donated last week for this fight. Guess I had better donate to NRSC to take on the RATs that vote against Alito as well!
While I'm truly delighted at the choice of Judge Alito and wholeheartedly support his nomination, I believe the wounds opened recently will not heal. They will merely be papered over. The less honest among us will pretend they never existed in the first place.

While arguably more conservative than Bush in many ways, JFK isn't conservative enough either.
Arguably among whom? JFK may seem conservative compared to the Dem party today, but no one would consider him to be a conservative by any stretch of the imagination. He is certainly not more conservative than GWB.
Don't get me wrong. Bush, as things stand now, is the most successful wartime president in US history: liberating more people and land with such comparably low fatalities [even the 'unconquerable' Afghanis]-- that's a major accomplishment. It would take over 40 years to reach Vietnam level fatalities.
Sorry, but Roosevelt and Truman were the most successful wartime Presidents. They liberated hundreds of millions in the largest war in world history. Comparing Iraq and Afghanistan to WWII is like equating a gnat to an elephant.
It would actually take almost 90 years to reach the 58,000 lost in Vietnam. We have lost about 2000 in three years. Projecting the same level of casualties over the same time span, it would take 29 times three or 87 years to reach 58,000.
At the same time, we need to look hard at how the 2000 primary was hyjacked, or the same thing will happen in 2008. But who realizes we were hyjacked?
Hijacked? We won the WH against an incumbent VP during a time of peace and prosperity by the narrowest of magrins. Who else would have beatened Al Gore? Allan Keyes? John McCain?
But the nuclear option is going to have to be exercised! What have we done!!!! The gang of 14 are going to be verwy angwy. :)

When I read Harry Reid's comments yesterday calling for Rove's resignation, I called his office and left a message that he should resign from the Senate for being an obstructionist. However, it might be in conservatives best interest to have someone that stupid as an opponent.
You can't just go by who he sided with - that is how Republicans have repeatedly gotten into trouble when trying to pick an originalist and ending up with a judicial activist.
You have to look at what the relevant laws were involved in the case and the what the details of the case were. There is nothing wrong with siding with a gay student who was being taunted if that was the correct ruling according to the relevant laws.

Do you have some insight into why those cases were wrongly decided? Did he "side" with someone inappropriate or did he apply the law correctly?

Bush is still batting 1000 on Judges, and the democrats will further destroy themselves attacking Alito. I wonder how many of them still really think they're going to gain any seats in the House and Senate next year. I sure don't see it. 8)
