just breaking!!!!!!!!
First off, I don't want a "conservative" judge - I want an originalist. A "conservative" would just be opposite Ms Ginsburg - an activist for the right. I want someone like Scalia & Thomas!
Second, let's say he nominates JRB or a Federalist society judge. Let's let the nominee state their beliefs & positions! Let's get the Dems on record AGAINST those positions! Let's let the media LOSE THIS WAR on ideals! I have no doubt with the new media we have these days that an originalist such as Thomas CAN and WILL get on the Supreme Court.
my 2 cents...
An "up or down vote" refers only to the procedure in the Sentate, NOT public debate, which is protected by the First Amendment. The problem in the Senate is that a group of minority Senators use a procedural tactic to prevent the majority from voting. This has nothing to do with our right to voice our opinions! I can't believe how many people on FR are making this mistake.
If Bush thinks she would be a good judge, he can still nominate her to a district or circuit court. Not likely, though.
Thanks for that posting, Chicken little.
So what's more important...Bush's short-term political considerations, or the next 20+ years of the Supreme Court?
Well, there should be a bunch on happy people on this board today.
One has to assume by the tone of your post you were a Miers supporter. There may be some opposition to the next candidate, even Roberts had his share ... but it's unlikely to be anywhere near the opposition the Miers nomination brought about ... which frankly had more to do with Bush's boneheaded choice of her, rather than Miers herself.
She was not the most qualified person to serve on the court and it would be hard for anyone here to make that case. Shame on Bush for not throwing a heavyweight into the ring and giving republicans an opportunity to have big victory.
Can't you just accept that people, even presidents make mistakes? The nomination was a mistake and nobody has to hate the president to realize it.
Who knows, we may just get a conservative judge WITH a track record. Horror of horrors... LOL

Who's Harriet Miers? |
I agree, i think it is a shame that Miers was bashed before anyone even found anything about her. I think Miers probably would have been fine, but to many things against her. Time to move on. In a year from now we won't even remember the name of Harriet Miers.
Wow...I was pretty close on the date/time prediction thread.
I had said 1PM today.
Agreed; and I will be in fervent prayer that he makes a wise choice this time around.
So strange.
"No bull, Bill Frist need to declare all-out nuclear war in the Senate and get something done for a change. lThe Republicans need to grow some cajones and get the job done. If they don't, they will lose the conservative wing of the party."
You got that right. I contributed more than I could really afford to the NRSC in order to give GWB the Senate majority required to confirm SCOTUS justices who actually respect the Constitution.
Got a fundraising call from the RNC two days ago. I told them no more bucks unless and until a qualified conservative justice is nominated and confirmed.
What's frustrating about this "stategery" is that we will never know for sure. So many here are convinced that Bush is just a limp-wristed liberal dope (replace liberal with conservative and it sounds like a democrat, eh?). But maybe, he actually was distracted by the war on terror, and actually did put it as his number one priority just as he promissed. We shall see.
