How did "Angie Harmon" become a key word on a Harriet Miers-related thread?

^____^

I don't think he's cynically trying to have it both ways. He just doesn't have the fire in his belly for a SC brawl. It's not Iraq.

Mark Steyn had a piece today that was excellent as usual, and he pointed out that no matter how much people are going to want to throw the repub bums out, a concomitant drive to throw the dem bums in, does not exist, and he's absolutely right.

That's a good advantage for the very right of center republicans. They were right to draw a line in the sand, and the party needed this.

Steyn also pointed out that the dems are completely out of ideas, which is irrefutable. But part of the reason they are, is that they implemented so much of their ideology over the past 40 years, that they are a product of their own success. They weren't able to put their ideas into practice because they didn't want to take the fight to someone. They did take the fight to whoever opposed them, and they won.

Harold Ickes, like him or not, lost a kidney, due to a fight that ensued during a civil rights march.

Conservatives are on the right side of the moral debates, and on the right side of history, at the moment. May they push as hard as the dems did to see their ideology prevail, and may they not lose heart when their own party thinks of them as the grassroot dagos they now have to live with.

They will stay home, like right wingers did when Dole ran.

And that worked out fine. It drove the party to the right again a led to election of GWB. Unfortunately, we just thought GWB was conservative.

In any event, the republican congress forced Clinton to govern as a relative spendthrift and things worked out fine. With a democrat in the whitehouse, the GOP congress actually scrutinized spending bills - with a Republican in the whitehouse they just rubberstamp them.

The party becoming weaker is not a bad thing if it is headed in the wrong direction.

Actually, I am right of center, but in the same vain as Bush.

Definitely not left, but to the left of the far right.

That is my court too! I can't stomach Brown, but I thought she needed to be tested on the appeals court for a while. She might be too libertine. My dope smokin years were long ago and libertarians have a nasty habit of being anti-war, anti-government and on the liberal side on half the issues, maybe more.

If we compromise it will be across the board, cuz we can't chop the gubermint up and share the pieces.

I've been around for a while, and I think I have a good handle on how things get done. Unfortunately, if you look back in history you will see a pattern repeating. This pattern leads to conservatives being on the outside looking in because they lack the patience, the understanding and the will to play politics. They are like bulls in a china shop and they never have the money to pay the damages.

As for there not being enough conservative voters to win a Presidential election, tell that to Ronald Reagan.

Reagan was supported by moderates and conservatives from BOTH parties.

No, Conservatives don't compromise. They lead.

Better read Lou Cannon's book about Reagan.

He compromised more than not.

Suits me fine if you would rather just jump to conclusions instead of forming an opinion based on actual knowledge (as opposed to reliance upon innuendo, rumor, gossip and half truths)

Ah, so Miers' speeches, vacant resume, and other published facts regarding her are simply dismissed with a wave of the hand?

You may choose to ignore all that verified, undisputed information, but to simply close your eyes, cover your ears, and say "blah blah I'm not listening" -- well, you might understand why I can't take you seriously.

Trouble is that those like you who would rather form opinions based on the rants of some screaming blogger or biased webmaster

All these vicious attacks. Poor ignorant baby.

Yeah...........I suppose so.

I see a weak fiscal side, but that is about it. That would be easy to fix, but you don't blow the party up to do it. Sorta non productive I would think.

Let's see. I was called "unpatriotic", "evil", "not a conservative", was told I was destroying the troops' morale, and some other things I have forgotten, because I didn't mindlessly support a terrible nomination.

But that's ok, apparently, because I *gasp* disagreed with The President.

No, what you did was scare the hell out of the moderates that the party needs to win elections.

But you will see......

I see a weak fiscal side, but that is about it.

That is all that a huge part of the base care about. Wealth redistribution is probably the biggest threat facing the country yet the Republican party embraces it fully.

Don't underestimate the appeal of fiscal conservatism. Arnold was even able to win California campaigning as fiscal conservative/social libertarian.

Also, foreign policy with the Republicans is a mixed bag. Leaving the southern border open like a sieve after 9/11 isn't a very wise move. Pledging billions to the UN that will only find it's way to corrupt african dictators isn't encouraging either.

What kills me is people wanted her to have a hearing! Hello?! If everyone is saying she's doing poorly, do you REALLY want her on national television, embarrassing herself and thus the President as well? She did the honorable thing by withdrawing. It would have been horrible for Miers to have been the one "defending" our beliefs... imho...

You have split the COALITION!
It will now be up to you to heal the coalition and support the President in his next nominee.
We won't be coming to your party on the next go around.
Who is the "we"?
Are you trying to actually tell us that Miers was your candidate?
I think we all know we can do better and should be thankful we have been given another chance. So lets all get behind the next solid choice. Whoever it is, they will at least be better than Miers.
Shame me once....Shame me twice.....but you will not do it a third time.
Don't you have to go put some food on your family?
