Kennedy was not a disaster in foreign politics.

Bay of Pigs? Turkey missiles? U-2 and oversight flights? China? Tawain? Berlin? Berlin wall? Greece? Malaysia? Vietnam? Vietnam coup's against original leaders? Space? Bomber gaps? McNamara's appointment? Rusk? UN? Korea? Turkey? Egypt?

Domestic?

Exposed himself to Mafia and foreign influence with dozens of illegal affairs. Bought nomination in the democrat party. Used vote fraud to get elected in national election.

Can you name anything Kennedy did right?

McCain is qualified. He's just irritating.

No true.

Mean, nasty temper. Angry. Vengeful. Takes offense easily. Threatens, bullies, intimidates, attacks. Demands strict allege - but to himself. Hated by all in Senate who have tried to work with, and by all in Senate who have tried to oppose him. Egotistical - and vain. Preens for the camera - will do anything, say anything, support anything to get in front of "loyal" MSM cameras.

DEMANDED that campaign finance reform be passed after he was implicated with 6 democrats in Keating S&L bribes: Against the 1st amendment. Opposes 2nd amendment in full form. Supports democrat agenda, and democrat goals. Opposes conservative (truthful) values. Strongly supports EVERY expansion of government power and taxes.

"Loose cannon" - with a short fuse and a hot temper? And you want HIM running foreign policy?

compromise

Spoken like a true Republican politician.

Compromise.

No, Conservatives don't compromise. They lead.

Not enough liberal rinos to elect a President either. So... whoooo will the Rino's choose to hitch their wagon to? I can hardly wait for them to answer.. This will be fun to watch huh? Republicans win on conservative principles. What IS Rino principle anyway..??? :)

I thank you for educating me. I hope this will not be heard while O'Connor is still sitting. Can we hold out hope that O'Connor would not "swing" with the lefties on partial birth abortion?

Yup! I guess you will get a lesson about coalitions, and how to be patient in politics. You cannot grab too much, too often.

It ends up as a loss every time.

The squishy middle will now be quite content to return to divided government. In fact, they will demand it to be so because they won't and don't trust the party anymore.

Just sit back, enjoy your day, and know that it will all end by the election in 2008.

I don't know what the government will look like, but we will no longer have it all like we do now.

No tears or laughter here, I think it's the prudent thing to have done and I now look forward to an originalist candidate...

Bush will make a appearance to get a new candidate confirmed, but you can be she will be making that decision. You can put money on it.

..I did say I was vehemently opposed to Bush's stated policy on immigration, but seeing this is not an immigration thread, I didn't expand on that point....

You know I was kidding right? :), and at the same I used you post as a tool to let everyone know, we have to start getting serious about sending the message about Illegal Immigration and reform in general. I believe that the Internet, as it is now, has changed the 'rules of the game.' FR has become our VOICE, and we simply have to get busy and put pressure where we have to. I don't believe it is an ACCIDENT, we are beginning to hear rumbles on this issue.

Thank you for letting use your very nice post to make my point :)

The proper course was to allow hearings to proceed and let her rise/fall with that appearance.

Do you contend that Miers' critics forced her to withdraw from consideration? What is your proof?

Miers voluntarily withdrew because it was right and honorable thing to do. The concern voiced by conservatives likely had a big part in that voluntary decision but it did not preempt or force it.

This is how participatory government should work.

And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates.

No, now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same thing again ONLY IF the President nominates another person with weak qualifications, and who lacks strong principles on abortion and many other core conservative issues. I suppose you would be perfectly happy if we end up with another Souter? If the president nominates a strong conservative, we'll stand behind him to the end.

They will stay home, like right wingers did when Dole ran.

That is what will happen.

I've been waiting a long time to pay that back.

Good. Very good. A little too leftist for me, but close enough.

I am a Conservative.

Now, let's make a deal. You get to keep both the Legislative and Executive branches and we get the Judicial branch.

Deal?

That's because, regardless of her politics, she is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court.

The notion that this person is qualified is belied by the fact that time and time again she has INVENTED her own meanings of the U.S.Constitution in her opinions. She has referred to European courts/world courts in her decisions. This is ridiculous and has no basis for how the Supreme Court is to operate per the Constitution. Spending your entire life working for the ACLU should have been all the red flags needed for the spineless Republicans to tell Clinton she was doa.

Our troops need money.

Exactly, and when the next military budget comes up, tell the rats to stop obstructing the process and give the nominee an up or down vote and then we'll continue the business of spending your money.

Good luck; American politics functions at the center.

The Republican party is the party of conservatives, the Demcrats the party of liberals. Middle of the roaders are people who either don't vote, don't care, have no opinion or who have opinions that contradict each other. These folks get to choose us, them or a third party. If middle of the roaders were a powerful constituiency, then the rat party wouldn't be catering to the liberals on everything they do. The Republican leaders can continue to ignore us AT THEIR PERIL. We've had enough and we're not taking it anymore.

There's a darn good reason why McCain is not the president and will never be the president; and that is because he ignored and belittled us and paid the price for it. I'm a betting man and I seriously doubt President Bush wants to call us out again.

Janice Rogers Brown and Littig are outside the mainstream of even conservative jurisprudence. ... That's because, regardless of her politics, she [Ginsberg] is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court.

Luttig is outside the mainsteam, but Ginsberg is in it? Or is she qualified and Littig and Brown are not? Or are they all qualified, but we shouldn't put Brown and Luttig up because it might hurt the feelings of the democrats. Which is it?

The others - John Rutledge, Alexander Wolcott, John J. Crittenden, John M. Read, George W. Woodward, Edward A. Bradford, George E. Badger, William C. Micou, Jeremiah S. Black, Ebenezer R. Hoar, George H. Williams, Caleb Cushing,Wheeler H. Peckham, John J. Parker, Abe Fortas, Homer Thornberry, Clement F. Haynsworth Jr., G. Harrold Carswell, and Robert H. Bork. Did you miss Reagan's other failed nominee, Professor Ginsberg, who withdrew over the controversy when he admitted to smoking pot with his law students at some point in his career? I think Anthony Kennedy was the successful nominee for that slot.
