Bush just got attacked and stabbed by his "allies"... I'm sorry, but if anyone did the stabbing it was GWB to his base.

Hell, sinkspur out and out accused her of being a closet lesbian because she isn't married. That is absolutely NOT true.
To: bray
Again, not being listened to is not the same as not being allowed to speak. And the actions of many Miers supporters in this thread is akin to a kid striking out in Little League baseball dropping his head, saying "I hate this stupid game", taking his ball and going home to complain how the umpires hated him, his teammates didn't like him, etc.
No one was denied a right to speak on here. Some arguments weren't as compelling as others, as is always the case. Until you find that your posts are routinely removed by moderators, you're not at DU. So I'll state it again: The ability to speak your mind in here is not a guarantee that you'll have others agree with you.

Check your math. You need 50 votes plus Cheney to rule a filibuster out of bounds. Several moderates (Warner, DeWine, etc.) would probably love to vote against a very conservative candidate, but they would never vote to uphold a filibuster.
Read what the "Gang of 14" said about why they did what they did: They claimed to be avoiding a crisis. Now only TWO of the gang of 14 had to be sincere. For all of the venom spewed at Lindsey Graham, for instance, can anyone really believe that he would uphold a filibuster?
What Bush wanted to avoid with Miers was NOT a defeat. He wanted to avoid a fight.

Okay, so what are the chances he'll appoint Alberto Gonzales?Zero. However, everyone with the name Alberta is in the running.

"After the beating he's taken over Miers, he KNOWS who's boss, and that's WE THE PEOPLE who elected him" I guess all those returned GOP faundraisers I sent back with "Withdraw Miers" written on had some effect.

Exactly. Instead of trust me, we need "Know me."

Eventually the pressure will be on the dems and the stupid GO14 to vote the nominee in.The Dems are in no hurry. As long as O'Connor sits on cases, any 5-4 rulings that she votes on would have to be reconsidered if she is not on the Court when the decisions are announced.
O'Connor might want them to hurry up, though.

Oh really? Have you been cloned?
An old, unmarried woman is suspect to me. What if she had come out of the closet shortly after confirmation?
Then what the hell is that?
To: sinkspur
You made Bush boss. He gets to pick SC nominees, not you.As this last incident and it's resolution should show, Bush proposes and his base disposes, should we be so inclined.
Bush does not nominate in a vaccuum (any more).

You made Bush boss. He gets to pick SC nominees, not you If that is true, why is Miers not the nominee anymore? We all have a role to play, and no one person gets to make this decision. It's almost, democratic (small d!).

I apologize. I had no idea your grandmother was in a nursing home.
Too bad she didn't teach you any manners.

Bush won two elections with that same MSM. Go state to state with her if need be. Go over the heads of the MSM. Bring the message right to the people.

"It is wrong to use some constitutional provisions as springboards for major social change while treating others like senile relatives to be cooped up in a nursing home until they quit annoying us." (re the right to bear arms) Love this quote! Looking through the info posted, it sounds like Kozinski is a good man to be considered for SCOTUS.

LOL! Hey, it was only a "what if". And wouldn't Bush have looked the fool if she HAD come out of the closet? Or maybe it would be the American people who would be the fools? Perhaps that would make you very happy!

I agree. It's a slam and an insult to all unmarried women to accuse them of being lesbians.
To: rodguy911
She could not have been confirmed. that is why she withdrew. If she could have been confirmed she would be going to the hearings. Just because you think something is true doesn't mean it is. The truth is she could not get confirmed. Period. That is the fact. Will a strong conservative be able to be confirmed? I don't know but a strong liberal was able to be confirmed in Ginsburg so it it possible. I will fight the good fight for a strong conservative. Now if the President gets tough on spending and the borders in the next 12 months the Republicans will win a landslide in 2006. Iraq is going well. Delay, Frist and Rove problems will be gone by election time IMO
To: sinkspur
If Repubs win in 2006, Specter, your chairmanship is toast. He has the job for eight years. Get used to it.
How can he have the job for eight years if his Senate term is only for six?
