More Teens Wearing Pajamas To School
AP ^ | October 18, 2005 | Staff

Posted on 10/18/2005 8:33:29 AM PDT by Millee

There's a new fad of students -- mostly girls -- wearing pajama bottoms to school, and so far administrators are not making a fuss about it.

"Some days you don't want to get dressed up for school. Like when it's raining and cold. You just want to be cozy," said Ben Lomond High School junior Elvia Escalante, 16.

School administrators in Ogden, Weber and Davis school districts say the pajamas have been modest and there hasn't been a problem.

"There are worse things a kid could wear to school," said Ross Lunceford, principal of Hillcrest Elementary School in Ogden.

"There's a fine line there, and I think sometimes we need to pick our battles. Should we get into a tussle over pajamas?" said Eileen Nicholas, student and family services teacher specialist for Ogden district.

Some students don't think much of the attire.

"They may be comfy, but it makes you look trashy and it gives you the idea you can just slack off for the day," said Ben Lomond High School senior Alena Marshall, 18.

"There is one particular girl at my church, with a surprisingly nicely shaped bottom for a teenager,"

Hmm....and what are you doing assessing the shape of a teenager's bottom in church? My, my....

You were ogling her if you noticed her well shaped bottom :-)
If it's a real problem ask the pastor to speak to her or her parents.

Camisole tops by themselves are totally inappropriate for church.

I saw a girl walking home from a middle school near my house wearing those giant fuzzy bedroom slippers. I thougt I was seeing things for a minute. Reading this story explains what I was seeing.

If you and others would look past appearances and actually get to know some of these kids personally, you'd see your preconceived ideas of them are really silly.

Thanks, but no thanks. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I worked for a couple of years as a teacher in the public school system and got to know "some of these kids personally". IMO, the future of this country is in jeopardy.

And this is why the topic very seldom gets raised and men suffer in silence. We fall into a damned if we say somenthing and damned if we don't situation. Much as we try to ignore it, especially while we are in church, men are visually oriented and can normally scope out and 'assess' a room with a single scan. We are wired that way and it takes an awful lot of will power to overcome that wiring. (women by the way tend to be more touch oriented)

I realize you are both ribbing me though but in other circumstances it may not be a rib

in fact, there were hip hugger pants during the 60's.

Yes they did!! And hip huggers are a long way from PJ's or running around with your underwear hanging out and your pants down around your knees.

There's a boatload of difference between the two.

*These are the young men and women who are and will be serving YOU and this country in the future.*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So wouldn't you want to give them a better chance by enforcing a little discipline now ?
When I was in high school in the late 70s, my Mom would not allow me to go to school with the then fad, *painters pants*. I obeyed my parents although I did not agree with them.
I'm not talking about casual hanging out, kids are kids, who cares if they want to be comfortable. I think the swim meet discussed is a bit different. But I tell you future success depends on good parenting. I thank mine often.
I guess it is a toss up. I don't have teen agers, maybe that is why you feel differently. Thanks
Hmmm...I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on that one. In my churchgoing days, long ago, I took it pretty seriously and saved any ogling for other places and occasions.
I suspect you'd find the girls attractive, regardless of what they are wearing. That's OK, but it's not the jeans that are the source of the problem, really.
I'm just funnin' you. Seriously, I think a talk with the pastor will help. That situation isn't right. Hopefully, someone will understand. Some people just don't see what they're wearing as being provacative and distracting.
Nevertheless, the downward spiral in dress began with the boomers and just got progressively worse.
Unfortunately the jeans are the problem. The bible tells the ladies to be modest for exactly this reason. God knows how we are wired. Some jeans are fine. Jeans that are painted on tight just don't pass the modesty test. But, as evidenced by our brief conversation here, there is no way for a man to object to immodest dress without having to admit he noticed and once he admits he's noticed he's branded as an ogler.
So what if a kid wears lounge pants to school? So what if their jeans or torn? Instead of tearing them down because of what they wear, encourage them for what they do right.
I'm guessing you're Egyptian, because you are definitely in Da-Nial!! First, stop projecting your stereotypes on me. I'm not stereotyping these kids on the basis of appearance or anything else.
I didn't tear the kids down, I said that wearing PJ's to school is inappropriate and they should be sent home and told not to return home until they can find something more appropriate to wear. There's a boatload of difference between "lounge" pants and torn jeans and PJ bottoms. Please try to understand what that difference is.
For me, casual isn't as bad as immodest. There's one woman at the church I go to that regularly comes in dressed like she's ready for a night on the town ( a hooker, actually); spaghetti straps, low cut, skin tight. The teens do the camisole thing. That simply cannot be condusive to worship for a number of the men out there.
Y'all need to send these folks over to my church! I go every Sunday, and never see this type of attire.
Ok, let me give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you have a point. Give me better examples than hip-huggers. On a scale of 1-10 on the risque meter, what was risque about hip-huggers? Had you mentioned something like micro skirts, which a few boomer girls wore, I might tend to agree with you. But, the majority of boomers engaged in wearing fashion faux pas, such as the ugly and ridiculous clothing of the 70s. For that, guilty as charged.
But those clothes hardly rate a 0.1 on the risque meter.>BR>
Your turn.
