TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Police used tear gas to break up a rock-throwing crowd that had gathered to protest a planned march Saturday by the National Socialist Movement.
At least two dozen members of a Roanoke, Va.-based group that calls itself "America's Nazi Party" had gathered at Wilson Park just before noon and were to march under police protection.

I'm not buying your theory. I despise the Nazis, but they have the right of free speech, and their opponents have the right to free speech. The rights of neither justify rioting and arson.
Do you know that for a fact? What I read was someone complained about drug deals. The nazis in Roanoake picked up on it and planned the march. Do you expect things to be calm when nazis want to march in a black neighborhood? What if it was a Jewish neighborhood? What if I got a group together and marched in a muslim neighborhood?
Were these kids idiots and behaved criminally? You bet. Idiots can usually be played like fiddles.

This is an almost literal repetition of what happened in Washington DC (I don't remember just when, but no doubt somebody can find it). The KKK (I think) was planning a rally on the Mall, for which they had a permit. Because of the threat of violence by opponents of the Klan, the rally was called off, whereupon the "counter-demonstators" attacked people and property near the Mall. Later a civic leader had the gall to blame the police for the violence, because they allowed the rally, even though the rally didn't happen.
Btw, I read earlier in the thread that Black Panthers were in Toledo in response to the nazis. And I was shocked to see a couple white faces in the crowd.

Excuse me, but the Nazis marched in Skokie, Illinois, years and years ago. There were angry words, but not this.
It was a different time and place. I wish the world was still like that. Up until the 60's, there wasn't anywhere, any neighborhood, that I was afraid of in Toledo.
Even further...the Nazi's have expertly "used" these gangs as tools to support their propaganda. The gangs have expressed their ultimate intellect as supreme "tools" of the National Socialists, who have not only proven their point beyond a doubt (black violence), but manipulated these folks to further soil their own home.

Societal standards sure have declined. When I was a kid, we used to ride our bikes all over Long Island. Nowadays, kids are getting kidnapped out of their beds.
Just reporting what the local official had to say earlier this afternoon.

All officers are encourage to use back up to make an arrest. The reason for this is to eliminate the necessity to use a high level of force as opposed to physical presence. 21ST century philosophy "contact and cover". Civil litigation is another reason because attorneys are suing officers under the guise of not waiting for back up when their client is injured.

I would take issue with this statement. These animals are highly trained and are discriminate as to who they become aggressive with, unlike a vicious animal.

I actually said in passing to my husband when they were looting that I wondered if any were transplants from NOLA, but certain Celine Dion would say "let-em loot." Seeing as how she doesn't have to worry about the high cost of goods that results from thieves I imagine she'll make the same stupid comment again.

I remember those days in Toledo. Everyone knew everyone else and had your parents phone number. Neighbors watched out for one another and the kids. I miss it.
