I remember in 2000 they were running those "it was like Bush murdered my daddy all over again" commercials because he vetoed some hate crimes legislation (even though the murderer in the case got the death penalty and Texas already had a hate crimes law). I was in a store and decent enough young white guy was talking to decent enough young black guy. Young black guy says he will never vote for George Bush because george Bush vetoed hate crimes legislation. The dem approach on this works.
By the way I ultimately blame the republicans. They sit around while dems accuse them of horrible things and say "tut tut" and are sure people will understand.
It's really a shame because George Bush has avoided anything smacking of racism his whole life. Witness for example his quick abandonments of Trent Lott and Bill Bennett. This is the reward he gets.
What a nice post. It's a shame that many on here have only negative or crude remarks in their comments.
I sometimes think civility and concern for all CITIZENS is never going to happen.
What I think is heart breaking is some of these remarks won't help those who need truths about what we as a nation should be trying to do. Not just for a certain group. But for all our families.
Kitten, I was sitting here reading this thread and shuddering. I started thinking now that the presstitutes smell blood over this hurricane mess, why not go after FreeRepublic, which was the primary cause of the fall of their great leader, Danny Boy. I read this and thought that maybe, just maybe, someone posted a response or two in an effort to make Freepers look bad. Comments like yours give me hope that some Freepers are awake.
I don't say write off the blacks. I say write off the idiots who seem to think they can only have the government give them things. That they are completely incapable of doing for themselves. Oh, BTW, that's black AND white bottom-feeders, or any other race for that matter.
