MIERS & LAST-MINUTE DROP-OUTS [Kathryn Jean Lopez] A journalist friend just spoke with a top Texas lawyer who spoke with Priscilla Owen last week. He says that she "most emphatically" did not withdraw her name from consideration to the Court. If the White House spin is that Harriet Miers got the job because nobody else wanted it, it would seem that the White House is at a desperation point. Posted at 12:07 PM
I remember this, too, from your helpful excerpt and just made reference to it:
Chief Justice John Roberts caused a flap earlier this year by insisting he was not a Federalist Society member
People spun Roberts as anti-Federalist, too.
Exactly, that's what I said...we need to find out who it was that lied to Dobson (used him) and give them lots of publicity.
Fact? It is BS,that is clear.. If it's fact then support it. BS. Pure and simple.. and darn weak at that..If you believe it you have had too much Kool-Aid. The harder "we" look for facts the more BS get dished up. Swallow it? Not in a lifetime and if Bush doesn't want to dance with who brought him the GOP may just be making the biggest mistake they have made in the last 30 years..I'm not working this long for this important a chance and have him screw it up, and then behave as a "loyal little Pubby in flyover land. Crap on that. If this person is qualified and we don't have a litmus test that says a female must be the candidate then help us all out and explain this absurd nomination. I started this week looking for the legitimate case for Miers. I have not seen a scrap of legitimate evidence on FR or anywhere else. Maybe a scrap but nothing anywhere near a compelling case and we deserve better. This lame duck president has little to risk but the RNC will help elect the next Democratic President if this isn't repaired, I fear.
Maybe Ken (the name always makes me think of "Ken and Barbie") is hinting that HE'S the next choice if Miers doesn't make it. Or that he should be. Takes one of the criticisms of the Miers pick "off the table," doesn't it?
Conservatives chided President Bush for not boldly trumpeting his Fed. Soc. credentials, and rightfully so.
The reason for the obfuscation on that issue is because Roberts had spent his entire adult life meticulously constructing a resume that would allow him to assume a seat on the Supreme Court.
Personally, I think the manner in which they handled the Roberts memos-and his ambiguous ties to the Federalist Society-was less than stellar.
I never claimed they were. The implication that I did is absurd.
BTW, when I said I highlighted her speaking before them, I meant in my first posting of the excerpt. The second time I posted that paragraph I highlighted how she used her influence in conjunction with Leonard Leo to amend the Roe V Wade endorsement.
Leo seems enthusiastic about her.
Um, You think they have offered significant evidence to support her? Heck there is more support from the bots on FR than they have offered. All I have heard them say is "whadda gal" Vouching is not good enough evidence of her commitments to rebuild a constructionist court. Not even close.
Clarify that "them" = Federalist Society
Oh, for gosh sake! No one's even reading off the same page as their judicial candidates there at the WH any more.
oops - President's head [possive not plural]
Watch it or I'll ping the kenlist!
Her book sales must have gone down....."onchilada" ROFL!!!!
I intended no such implication - and apologize if you took it personal. The comment was meant to be taken as directed "toward Ms. Miers."
Leo seems enthusiastic about her.
That plays in my calculus. And in the spirit of the FedSoc - free and open, reasoned debate is healthy.
Here is the link to yesterdays FReeper article stating that it was Rove himself who told Dobson that most of the potential nominees had withdrawn their names.
Then a poster on this board (see posts 1 thru 13) stated that he/she knew that Owen was one of them. I put post 13 on their because I smelled rotten fish.

Hey, I always envied Ken because of Barbie, especially because of that double-jointed thing she had! ;)
Furthermore, I'm a conservative FIRST and always will be.
Thank you for the clarification (I was being "touchy")
