Ann Coulter just took apart President Bush's SCOTUS nominee on the air during her appearance on the Mike Rosen show here in Denver on 850am KOA. She called for listeners to write their senators to oppose the nomination. Wish you could have heard it!
Ann said - "Totally unqualified", called Judge Roberts "a 'dream' candidate in light of this nomination", mentioned "cronyism" over and over. Much more that I'm trying to digest. I called the station to see if they saved the audio, but no luck on that. Mike Rosen was just about speechless as Ann went on and on about why this was a lousy choice.
I agree with Ann. Huge mistake and missed opportunity.
Ann's choice, Janice Rodgers-Brown. Not enough intestinal fortitude in the White House to go with that choice.
Can't wait for Ann's column on this nomination later this week.
Yes, Miers is a born-again conservative Christian. That's why Harry Reid is so enthusiastic about her.
He really needs 60 votes to knock down a Dim filibuster, unless the Pubbies were to go "nucular". So, he was clearly trying to avoid that fight. His pick of Miers will be viewed as brilliant "strategery" if she is easily confirmed and subsequently lines up philosophically and by vote with Scalia and Thomas. Time will tell, as this is a matter of faith at this point.
Who wouldn't support her in the GOP? She'd be the first black woman on the Supreme Court. Do you recall the spike in the black vote in the 2004 election? More than enough incentive to build on that with a JRB appointment.
Off the top of my head, Santorum for starters (mea culpa for supporting Specter) is in a particularly bad place with conservatives and needs to regain some traction going into 2006.
Can you imagine the press if a Bush nominee is defeated?
Sorry, Ann, your word isn't gospel to me. I'm leaning toward Bush's choice. I think he knows what he's doing. Smart you may be, dear, but you're not always right. Now like another poster said - GO EAT SOMETHING and give that mouth a rest!
"Yeah, she's praising Roberts now"
Uh... I don't think she's praising him. If your husband or wife said "So and so is so stupid they make YOU look smart" would you take that as praise?
Coulter just wants a fight, as do many here. Bush doesn't do that.
Coulter gets paid to make TV appearances. A Rogers-Brown would have her on Hannity every night, shouting down Colmes or Bob Beckel.
With no fight, Coulter sits at home.
Which raises the question: I saw many here yesterday object to Meirs because she wasn't married. Some even hinted she might be a lez.
How come Ann Coulter's still single? She hasn't found the right Rottweiler yet?
"A damn shame Annie has latched on to the Lefty talking point of the day."
The Free Republic is sounding a lot like the Democratic Underground. It's turning into a 24/7 Bush bash.
I trust my vote for Bush and I'm not going to back down because the fringe rightwing is mad. Annie and Billy kristol don't speak for me and never will. They're right wing lunatics and are no different then the fool... Mike Moore.
Another point that Ann mentioned. There are only nine Supreme Court justice spots available and when a rare opportunity comes up to choose someone for that lifetime position you choose from the most qualified available nominees. That didn't happen in this case. Ann is exactly correct.
"Ann is a liberal!!! She should go to DU!!! Mmmmmmm . . . . Kool-Aid."
Wow. What a thoughtful and profound comment.
It's rather amazing how childish people can be. I don't agree with Ann on everything but she is a very strong conservative voice. I have heard plenty of others as well speak out or at least voice some concerns and the Bush loyalists are trying to shout them down by any means necessary. Maybe she will turn out to be a good nominee. Who knows? I thought that we supported free speech around here but I guess not.
I still remember my favorite poem from when Nipsy would close out the MatchGame gameshows...
To those who choose
A life of booze
I have no pity at all...
For my sorrow lies
with you sober guys
'Cause us drunks are having a ball!
I've been called all kinds of nasty things lately. If these Bush-bots only knew how much grief I've suffered almost everyday for the past five years, at home and at work, for being a Bush supporter. Morons.
I think it's funny that people are saying everyone here should support Bush no matter what, as if that's just the natural thing to do, but God forbid he put JRB in front of the Senate because, naturally, our Republican senators will not support Bush no matter what.
Worse, it would drain a full year out of any other issues or agendas. Coulter is wrong. She needs to read about George Washington and his strategy for beating the British . . . and his own back-biting generals.
I really don't think all that much of Coulter. Her primary goal is to generate controversy - a lot of heat but not much light. I get tired of folks bashing Miers because she doesn't have a wonderous academic pedigree. How many liberals have wonderous academic pedigrees, and how much grief has that caused conservatives?
Reid is just spinning to discourage conservatives. Privately, he's probably defecating in his pants.
I'm sorry, did Roberts rule on something already and I missed it?
AMEN BROTHER. People here are confusing our concern about unknowns with conviction that they are lefties. The point is, no one here is sure, and there are candidates about whom we could have been MUUUUCH surer.
