"I do, and always will."

I figured you take that approach. You are just looking out for your personal agenda, I should have guessed as much.

"Experience is a valid reason as in the case of a JAG Officer."

Yes, especially with this

Sec. 4. Authority of the Secretary of Defense Regarding Trials of Individuals Subject to this Order.

(a) Any individual subject to this order shall, when tried, be tried by military commission for any and all offenses triable by military commission that such individual is alleged to have committed, and may be punished in accordance with the penalties provided under applicable law, including life imprisonment or death.

(b) As a military function and in light of the findings in section 1, including subsection (f) thereof, the Secretary of Defense shall issue such orders and regulations, including orders for the appointment of one or more military commissions, as may be necessary to carry out subsection (a) of this section.

I have a feeling if President Bush did everything to please the handwringers, we'd be in a fine mess.

We will never know will we? However, we will see real soon what a colossal mistake this was.

Bush has just done what his father did with reneging on 'Read My Lips' - he betrayed his base. You too will look back on this day with great regret... This marked the end of conservativism in Washington for a long time to come. Maybe that is what you prefer...

We live in a time where Conservative giants walk the legal fields yet we get a third stringer.

I agree. For once just pick the right person for the job and politics be damned!

Tonk, I don't think she needs experience in that area, it is the US Constitution we are concerned with here, the rest will take care of itself.

Thank You for understanding that support for our troops is my #1 personal agenda

Now what is your #1 personal agenda?

Stand by your conviction. I got b!tchslapped for saying that this old maid is not qualified. The bushie's did not want to hear about her Dallas City Council days, or the Lottery G-tech thing. ABA policies seem to mystify a lot of cheerleaders as well.

At 8:15 am the President is going to announce he will officially switch to the Democrat Party.

LOL! They still won't like him.

Vice President Disk Chenney has just said on Sean Hannity that he believes she (Miers) will be voting with Scalia and Thomas. Fred Barnes has just written a column that he believes conservatives should hold their fire.

Getting someone who upholds the Constitution as written. Not to uphold my pet projects.

""That is the point. He HAD strict constructionists of great repute and constitutional scholars. He chose his lawyer""

Why? Do you know something no one else does? I've learned one thing (actually a couple of things) in life - what we perceive to be, 99% of the time is incorrect. At first glance it is easy to criticize this nomination in the negative. Upon further introspection, many possibilities seem to present themselves...

Sometimes doing the obvious is a mistake.
Is there any possibility she could be a strict constructionist? What about you or I, could we be? I think no one knows.

I respect your opinions and do not disagree..

I would be inclined to mute my scathing criticism if there were no other highly qualified candidates. I can think of three highly qualified FEMALES, and a half-dozen men. This nomination is a betrayal to conservatives. And I have been labeled as a centrist. The hardcore conservatives really feel sold down the river.

""Disappointing at best. It appears that some of those posting are denizens of DU.""

No doubt one strategy is to flood this site with such nonsense as has been posted upon the nominee's name being revealed....by those on the other side of the fence...

Not to uphold my pet projects.

Pardon me if I missed something, but is our Military a "pet project"?

I need an answer soon as my son is planning to petition the American Military for a position tomorrow.

My only son.

I don't have several to waste.

I won't be comfortable until I know that she is a strict constuctionist/originalist. But that is the report on her.

Those who care legally about what her political views are seem to be suggesting that we have to pick people with the correct POLITICAL views just in case they are activists, so they are correctly activist.

I don't really want a conservative activist.

Others point out that conservatives take positions that make sense, and to the degree she has other views it shows her lack of good sense. That is a more compelling argument in opposition, presuming we can determine what he current views are.
