Harriet Miers
It looks like she donated to algore in 1988, not 2000.
Sometimes an ex-Democrat is similar to an ex-smoker - they become intolerant of their old ways (like me) :)
Like Europe did?
Source?
I don't know if Miers will be the appointee or not and unlike most on this thread, I don't know enough about her yet to jump to any conclusions, but I will remind everyone here that the same outfits that reported that Edith Clement was the President's last pick to the SC is now reporting the same about Miers.
Let's wait and see.
***
If you remember, we knew an hour before he came out and announced and that's exactly what we see now. Don't get your hopes up. She's the pick.
If you look carefully, the part that says she donated to Al Gore and Lloyd Bentsen says "Mrs." She's never been married.
Remind me not to hire you for data analysis.
Look around the thread.
She donated to Algore and Bentsen in the 80s.
" Senator, I know Antonin Scalia, and Harriet Miers is no Antonin Scalia !"
Absolutely correct.
I don't have to drink anything.
Pres. Bush is self-destructing and it's obvious to anyone who is willing to see.
You'd think the media would've learned after breathlessly reporting that the President was to name Clement later in the day, only to have Roberts' name sprung on them at the last minute. That was only a few months ago, and here they go again.
LOL
Anyway, she donated to the DNC and ALGORE for President in the past. Later she became loyal to President Bush. I don't think that the best candidate for Bush's family, will be the best Justice in the years to come. Bush's term will finish in 2008 and then, to whom will she be loyal?
THIS IS BAD NEWS!
At the moment I'm disappointed, but I'm prepared to be persuaded that she's okay. She's 60 years old and at the time she attended SMU (both undergraduate and law, and Laura's alma mater), SMU was a conservative school. It still essentially is but has grown more politically correct. I would really like to know whether she is pro-life, but she'll probably keep this a deep, dark secret during conformation.
This is a very unimpressive resume for some one to be put on the SCOTUS. I don't think she's the one. REmember how everyone thought it was Edith Clement (or whichever lady, I may have the wrong one) last time? When it was really Roberts, who I don't think had been on anyone's list.
Well, this is lousy news to start the day with.
Now you know how many of us feel about illegals, the education bill, medicare and many other Bush time he has ignored the conservative side of his party.
Why do you still love him?
I really can't answer that..... I do not know enough about her....that can be separated from rummor. At any rate, if the Dems go easy on her....Bush made a blunder...if they circle the wagons...Bush made a good selection. Other than this at this time, I refuse to throw rocks at the President....on this issue.
He and I have big disagreements on other issues....but nothing like I'd have had with a democrat president & congress.
Doesn't automatically preclude confirmation. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was never a judge only the lead attorney for the ACLU. She got 93 out of 100 confirmation votes. But I agree this is a B-A-D choice for the nation. I shudder to think what will happen to the 2nd Amendment as a result of this.
