They should have been wearing them. I wonder if those who died were injured or got trapped under the boat.

For some reason, I really like the "Bush's fault" posts - they make me laugh. My sense of humor must not be too sophisticated :-)

I am really wondering, though, why the Ethan Allen capsized in calm water. Wake from another boat, short of something really big, like a ship, shouldn't have done it. Has to be a stability problem of some kind IMO.

I agree they should have been wearing them.

The second part of your statement is disturbing to think about. This is really sad.

Sorry for the above post. I did not realize that people had died from this until I scrolled down.

Only thing I can think of is if everybody rushed to one side of the boat to see something.

That might cause a small boat with relatively narrow beam to capsize.

I googled for the boat and it doesn't look like it can hold 50 passengers.

I'm glad Sam... You're the lucky one... it's more fun to laugh than it is to be annoyed.

The boat is probably pretty top-heavy, and broadside to a big wake, it doesn't have a lot of freebhoard.

That boat can seat 50? Wow. Twenty-five seems more reasonable.

The thing is that seasoned citizens are usually able to swim or at least float on their own. They might not be fast anymore, but they know how to tread water and don't usually panic.

That's really too bad. I'm less than an hour south of there, and sports is more important on the alphabet channels. the EA is one of the little shoreline boats - small and cute - holds about 20. A friend has 2 of the same style boats for tours on Lake Champlain at Teachouts Point.

BTW: hate the headline title. This is what it **should say**

"upper new york".. like upper you a$$ or something.... sheesh.

Yes, if this is the boat there were fifty people on board, it would appear to be overloaded.

Presser coming up...

Wake from another boat, short of something really big, like a ship, shouldn't have done it.

Fox News was talking with a guy on-scene who had talked with eyewitnesses, and they were telling him that a wake from a bigger boat, The Mohican is what capsized the Ethan Allan

From this website is a photo of The Mohican
