Giuliani: I'm Considering 2008 Bid
NewsMax ^ | 10/2/05 | AP

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday he will contemplate next year whether to run for president in 2008.

"I will be considering it next year," Giuliani said during a visit to Denmark. But he added that playing with the idea of running for the Republican nomination for president did not mean he would actually do it.

"Sometime you warm up and get ready and you don't get in and pitch," he told reporters, in a baseball analogy.

Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised $8,400 in support for their New York colleagues.

"To us it was the only thing we could do, raise money and show our support," firefighter Jens Hjorth said.

Eight firefighters from the station raised the money by recording a CD with six songs called "The Skyline Changed." They sold 27,000 copies.

On Sunday, the band members handed over a copy of the CD to Giuliani, who in return gave them a New York Fire Department hat.

Giuliani was in Denmark to speak at a business leadership conference in the Danish capital on Monday.

In 2000, Giuliani ran for the U.S. Senate, but dropped out after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Where would you get that idea? You're wrong. I believe he would accomplish more then Bush in those areas.

Give me a break. Rudi's a dyed-in-the-wool New York politician. Every politician from New York believes that government spending is the cure for all of society's ills.

Post #99 - great analysis, though I still have my doubts about Guilani.

As the Catholic wife of a very practical Catholic Knight of Columbus, I can tell you that I would never in a thousand million years vote for Giuliani even if he were to run against the devil herself Mrs. Clinton.

As a pro-choice Republican, Giuliani would not survive the primaries.

He could win all the blue state republican primaries (Rudy easily wins NY,MA,NJ,NH,VT,CA,OR,WA,ME,CT,PA,MD,DC,HI) and get enough of the red state delegates to put together a win.

When the south stops being the power base of the republican party

The South, Northeast and CA are irrelevant in a national campaign. The only thing that matters are the swing states, OH,FL,MI,PA,NV.

With Clinton, we conservatives argued that private morality counts

No we did not. We argued the breaking the law counts and that the Clintons are criminals, which they are.

" The South, Northeast and CA are irrelevant in a national campaign."

They're only irrelevant if you can win them all like you're supposed to.

With a RINO, you are in danger of losing 'safe' states. THAT is the issue. Without locking up safe states by appealing to the base, all the swing states won't matter.

R.G. refuses to recognize our 2nd Amendment; he is an advocate for further violations of it as well as our 14th's "equal rights".

My dream ticket is Hannity/Coulter

The Odd Couple. Coulter could be the one who wears the pants in the White House.

The combination of all six of them makes Giuliani something of a circus act on the national scene.

He's hardly a circus act. Not like any number of Democrats who've ran in the previous election, or plan on running in 2008.

"When I earned my graduate degree at the University of Denver in the early 1970s, no one with whom I was associated, participated in the activities that you describe."

Well my criticism reaches an even deeper level. Those college-produced justices who pretend to be conservative and then backstab 40 million babies. Those college-produced politicians who pretend to be conservative and then backstab the tax payer. Those college-produced beaurocrats who stick it to us every day. I'm NOT IMPRESSED. Boortz, for example. College produced. Absolutely brilliant. I only wish he were educated by men who respected the right to live, men who didn't make him hate Christians so much.

"Do you think that Dr. Condoleezza Rice participated in these activities before she graduated from my alma mater, the University of Denver, in 1974?"

Let's see what Condi does with the State Department. Let's see what she achieves. I hope she does well, I really do. Is she another Alan Keyes? Or another Colon Powell? I'll take the Alan Keyes any day of the week. He didn't let college warp his mind. Or is she like Powell? Does she think Algar Hiss's United Nations is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

"One of the co-founders of JD Edwards is now a PHd at the University of Denver. I studied under him while studying for, and earning my MBA. He is a now Dean of the Business School."

There are exceptions. And Hannity is a graduate of the SOHN. You'll find a lot of success stories from that school too, even a lot of billionaires.

"Some folks may have a jaundiced eye towards higher education. Probably due to the Stainman that..."

Yeah the professors really did a 'great' job moulding today's leaders, didn't they?

"end of conversation"

Yeah if you say so, I suppose it is.

"Assuming she's elected, it's highly unlikely such treachery and treason will ever occur again."

And do you assume Hillary wouldn't shut down the internet?

I think you're being overly optimistic. I believe it's going to be years before California and Mississippi, New Jersey and Wyoming, etc. cast electoral votes for the same presidential candidate. Such a scenario would require a landslide of Reagan-like proportions -- and while that certainly isn't impossible, I can assure you that Rudy Giuliani is incapable of delivering it.

If neither he nor McCain are nominated, the Republican likely loses- particularly against Hillary.

You've been reading too many 2005 polls about the 2008 presidential race. Giuliani and McCain rise to the top of those polls simply because they have more name recognition than anyone else. Neither one of those two has any chance in hell of winning the GOP nomination, and neither one would garner more than 45% of the popular vote in 2008.

At this point in 2001, Al Gore was the Democratic front-runner for 2004 -- for the same reasons.

Me: "My dream ticket is Hannity/Coulter"

You: "The Odd Couple. Coulter could be the one who wears the pants in the White House."

I hope not! I hope she doesn't change her flair for clothes much at all. =]

But seriously, while she may attract votes with looks [she would definitely attract men willing to hear her out], at the same time, she's brilliant, quick on her feet, and knows what America needs: for example, she would terrify Islamo-facists, insist that swarthy looking men get extra attention at airports, and be outspoken about taxes and spending.

"If Mr. Giuliani were to win the Republican nomination, social conservatives will have already lost, and lost big."

I agree. And the primary process is really jaded now. We don't have the luxury of small events stretched out over several weeks, giving us time to look candidates over.

As it is now, it's all about campaign seed money. If the grass roots doesn't rally behind someone soon, that front-loaded primary will blast away a crowded field of unknowns.

That's why we need to hash out who we back early.

If you go out and ask a lot of average people who don't follow politics, you will find that most of them don't care who has an abortion, regardless of whether they themselves approve or disapprove. I have asked a lot of my son's friends, and they really don't care.
