Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday he will contemplate next year whether to run for president in 2008.
"I will be considering it next year," Giuliani said during a visit to Denmark. But he added that playing with the idea of running for the Republican nomination for president did not mean he would actually do it.
"Sometime you warm up and get ready and you don't get in and pitch," he told reporters, in a baseball analogy.
Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised $8,400 in support for their New York colleagues.
"To us it was the only thing we could do, raise money and show our support," firefighter Jens Hjorth said.
Eight firefighters from the station raised the money by recording a CD with six songs called "The Skyline Changed." They sold 27,000 copies.
On Sunday, the band members handed over a copy of the CD to Giuliani, who in return gave them a New York Fire Department hat.
Giuliani was in Denmark to speak at a business leadership conference in the Danish capital on Monday.
In 2000, Giuliani ran for the U.S. Senate, but dropped out after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Alberta's Child brings up, sadly, a good point. It's the kind of point people don't like talking about, but it does make a difference. And it's a fact in political science: looks do matter, a lot. That's what attracted a lot of initial contributers to Bush, IMHO. They had confidence in a man with looks. And that's the context AC was using, if I remember the initial post correctly.

Sorry. Not all of them are smart. Some are getting drawn in by a couple lame speeches by Broom-Hillary. Imagine that. Like I said, it's an important issue, and I don't want some lame rat stripping votes off from the GOP with it.

we would be, but we aren't voting for her anyway. the MSM would spin it into a plus for her "I cannot commit to serving NY for 6 years, therefore I feel it is my duty to step aside now". Hell, she might even endorse Rudy for senate to pick up some additional "mainstream" status for herself.
Conservatives: Don't bother, Rudy. We're not pro-aborts and we are pro-Second Amendment. You're not. See ya.
Death, resignation, or retirement will lead to another Supreme Court vacancy that the next President will need to deal with. The last thing we need is appointments by a social liberal President.
Anyway, how common is it for a pro-abortion candidate to thrive up in New York? I hope people in the rest of the country will understand if/when Rudy's position on abortion changes.
A person can genuinely change his mind on abortion. However, if Rudy changes his position in the near future, it would appear un-genuine, and merely political. He has made some strong statements in the past on this issue which would be difficult to retract.

Ah, and by that logic, Rudi could say, "Now that she stepped down, I guess I can step down to. Unless she jumps back in, I endorse [most likely Pirro, based on his politics]."
Then it gets really strange, huh? =]
Two Rudy incidents should earn the respect and admiration of all Americans - Rudy threw Arafat out of an affair at Lincoln Center. The family of Leon Klinghoffer sent him a personal not e of thanks. The second was when Rudy returned a $10 million check to Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal after the Prince tried to make the moral equivalence argument for 9-11. Rudy told him flat out that "there is no moral equivalent for this terrorist act." I would be proud to elect President Rudy Giuliani.
If it hadn't been for 9/11, Giuliani's legacy would be summed up as "the guy who announced his divorce at a press conference after getting caught screwing the talent at the office."
I love what Giuliani did for New York in specific and America in general after 9/11, but the man is not fit to be President.

Right. Back in the day when people had to fumble with paper newsclippings, a politician could get away with changing positions on issues. Nowadays, it's not so easy. I'm glad too. It should not be easy to weasle out of a pro-abortion speech.

Rudy??? Unelectable??? In your dreams! Rudy would win hands-down at the national level. That's why the Dems are so afraid of him. He'd get massive support from independents, moderate Dems, Republicans on both coasts...and, yes, even conservative Republicans who are conservatives in the mold of John Roberts, i.e., not ideologues.
People everywhere love Rudy. You can see it in the crowds he draws. Rudy is a leader and people gravitate to that.
Some Republicans seem to excuse the social liberal views of Giuliani by believing he would be strong on homeland security. Searching the 'net a few months ago, I found this statement:

His supporters had better do their research before joining the Giuliani bandwagon.
Giuliani would never survive the primaries. That is why he is unelectable at the national level.
