The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
but how soon after the explosion did the cell phones "godown". it sounds like congestion to me, people heard the noise and started calling out. for authorities to figure out what had happened, and call the telcos to turn their towers off - would have taken some time. unless the stadium/campus has a micro-cell that they could switch off quickly on their own.
Great.... these idiots...the MSM is just another "business" that could care less about the news and more about their weekend social calender.
You lost your point a long time ago .
Yes...could have been a copy-cat, an independent, or part of a loose and disorganized cell.
My apologies. No, not your original statement. Must be sleep depravation.
I take note of your comment concerning MSM....not sure if Bush hatred will trump panic here though.
Perhaps they are just trying to downplay in order to catch some folks and to prevent panic which would disrupt their search.
You're kidding ..right ?
I was at the Texas Tech game and tried to make a call. I got only "svc unavailable" from about 7:30 to about 8 p.m.
Glad you are all okay.
Do you remember Mousouri? Was here in Norman at the flight school. Nicholas Berg? In Norman taking classes. Two others in jail for helping Mousouri? Came here on student visas which expired long before 9-11.
Now that I find more probable.
1. Declare Islam a criminal organization, use the RICO Act, seize assets, property, burn down the mosques, jail the clerics and any other pain in the ass liberal who opens their big mouths.
2. Nuke Mecca.
*I* woulda still been in the stands, if I'd have been there, bomb or no bomb. I hope it's not the last 43 points we see on our side this season!
"Most are looking for 9/11 scale attacks, but I think suicide bombings with 1-3 people in a school/mall/church will probably become the norm. Cheap and psychologically devastating. Hope I'm wrong."
I agree. I have always suspected that Al Queda will change thier tactics from bombing well protected high profile targets to soft targets such as malls and football games. The psychological and economic impacts would be devastating.
Hope your having your glass of wine.Could curse-won't.
If 80,000 people at a football game try to use their cell phones at the same times, how many open circuits does that take, and how many calls can one cell station allow through...
Not necessarily shutting down of computers... Sometimes computers and cell coverage crashes from overload...
When 9/11 happened, I knew someone who tried to call a friend in New York City (from Atlanta). He thought because he could not get through the person was dead.
It was simply a case of jammed circuits.
They might shut things down just so they really don't foul up communications for the people who really need it in such cases...
Or computers could crash.
Don't you think it is possible that 80,000 people might have tried to use their cell phones after the blast?
That's freaky -- I know some of those folks in the pictures.
Don't you think the timing, location, and method of this are very odd and suspicious? I do. How often does someone blow himself up with a bomb as a means of suicide, and right outside of a football stadium packed with thousands of fans? From a purely statiscal perspective, this is an extremely unusual event.
Just catching up on this. Would some kind FReeper please tell me what is going on? Was this a Muslim suicide bomber or do we not know yet?
