From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

Here's that story (Jan 2004), which has intrigued me too:

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:pVl6F5cGjQAJ:www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/155031p-136286c.html+new+york+apartment+media+terror+terrorism+jennings&hl=en

How does Steven Brill manage to maneuver himself into the white-hot center of nearly everything?
The answer is doubtless too grand and full of nuance for a mere gossip column.

Suffice it to say that that on Tuesday night the 53-year-old Brill - journalist, media mogul and national I.D. card entrepreneur - hosted a summit between Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and the major television network news divisions.

Sitting around the dinner table with Ridge at Brill's Fifth Ave. apartment - to hash over terrorism scenarios, government-to-media communications and other pressing issues - were NBC's Tom Brokaw, ABC's Peter Jennings (along with news President David Westin), CBS News President Andrew Heyward, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes and CNN's Aaron Brown.

Dan Rather, recovering from facial surgery, couldn't make it, but Brill's wife, Cynthia, and two of their children listened and learned.

"The dinner was a wide-ranging discussion about international terrorism and domestic security," Jennings told me. "The topics included the challenge for the networks if, God forbid, there was ever another catastrophe similar to 9/11."

Fox News' Ailes said: "I think we got a little better understanding of their process and how they make their decisions of what they're going to announce to the public. Anytime you have conversations about homeland security, it's always interesting."

I'm told that Brill, who befriended Ridge while working on his post-9/11 book "After," engineered the off-the-record government-media exchange out of a belief that "thousands of lives can be saved depending on the kind of information that is on television in the first hour after an event."

Last year, Brill founded a nonprofit group to address the challenges of homeland security.

The dinner, said Homeland Security spokesman Brian Roehrkasse, was "one of a number of ongoing efforts to have a continuing dialogue with the media to determine how we can best work together

Ooops!

I cut off part of the last sentence -- here it is completed:

"The dinner, said Homeland Security spokesman Brian Roehrkasse, was "one of a number of ongoing efforts to have a continuing dialogue with the media to determine how we can best work together to get timely and accurate information to the American people."

I did find it amusing that Dan Rather couldn't make that dinner...because of facial surgery...!

I don't know if it's been posted yet, I haven't had time to review the last couple hundred posts, but local CBS affiliate News 9 in OKC just did a story less than an hour ago that said Hinrichs had been seen at the Islamic Center near his home, his room mate was a Pakastani and Hinrichs tried to buy some ammonium nitrate last week. I posted this same info on my blog here. As soon as they post the link on their website, probably tonight, I'll put a link up. Boren better come up with a better story.

The tv was on when I got home from work. It stopped me in my tracks when I heard that news. This is going to blow wide open real soon.

The ended the report by saying the Islamic center had been silent on this story so far.

Hinrichs tried to buy some ammonium nitrate last week.

Well, well, well. Thanks for that information. Luckily a few people are able to get some details out about this story.

We'll all be old and gray before the lame-stream gets around to it, it seems. Thanks for the link to your blog, looks very interesting. Will look around there.

Michael Savage's sub Rick Roberts is talking about this story now, if anyone wants to listen.

He's saying that in the nearly one hour press conf today with the Pres, not one question was asked about this, or borders, or illegal aliens -- though some reporter asked the very important question about steroids and baseball.

Thanks for providing the clickable link. My html is really rusty and I wanted to get the link up before I had to get my daughter from school.

Rick Roberts is one smart dude, and is much more calm and logical than Savage. He's a former oil industry attorney, and he does the morning drive talk show at KFMB-San Diego. Roger Hedgecock does the afternoon show at KFMB. Rick is a real sharp guy...trained in law, economics, and logic. Liberal troll callers can't slip anything past him.

I'll try, but am not too great at this transcribing!

Rick Roberts is saying the only way we got by this is that the idiot set it off before there were many people around.

Someone called and said that he thinks the govt is keeping incidents like this quiet to protect moslems who may be subjected to retaliation after something like this.

The host says that is no reason to keep the American people in the dark, we have laws against hate crimes, if people commit them, they should be prosecuted, but we should not have information like this kept from us.
