The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
What is truly bizzare is that they are labeling this a 'suicide' then other other hand state they don't know what the motive of the individual was.
"Kerry Pettingill, Oklahoma homeland security director, said the incident was under criminal investigation and the motive behind the explosion was not known."

Why is it a stretch? It happens everywhere. Just because it hasn't happened here before in no way means that it can't or won't.

NOT. The initial reports said they couldn't make a determination. You'll find no report that said the body was blown to bits. You and others inferred that on your own.
Most likely, a determination had not been made before initial reports because no one got close enough to see the body yet. They would not move in until they sent the robots and dogs to check the area and blow up the backpack.
Within a couple hours after the initial reports, there were reports that the body was a male.
Probably should look in the stats for this before guessing, but my guess is that suicide involving a bomb is on the order of 10,000 to one against. My guess is most suicides are carbon monoxide, gun shot, sharp instrument, jumping off high place, or drugs. I'm not a young person, but this would be the first ever that I have heard of a suicide using a bomb that was not terrorist related.
Very much appreciated. This morning there seemed to be a reversal according to press accounts that there was no second explosive device. Now Fox indicates that the Freepers original info. was correct last night.

Yeah, I also heard Boren say that was incorrect this morning. FOX is stuck on last night's story.
Google Earth the area, near the Duck Pond. See if there are any Mosque-like buildings near there. Do not jump to any conclusions.

My wild days at PSU are long over, but fondly remembered. I feel sorry for the kids on today's campuses, having to deal with Homeland Security issues, overbearing opinionated professors who punish them for being conservative, and the fears of terrorist bombings in their residence halls, libraries, classrooms, etc.

The list includes 97.5% of all suicides. Suicide by bomb can be no more than 2.5%. I see suicide by refusing medical treatment is not in the list and probably is most of the remaining 2.5%
I know of one incident, here in rural PA, that happened in the 50's. A coal miner sat in the middle of the street out in front of his home with dynamite and set it off.
My wife was just a young girl then, but she said her and her sisters walked by several days later and there was still small pieces of flesh in the trees and shrubbery.
Being a coal miner he had access to dynamite.
By the way his old lady had a boyfriend while he worked the night shift.
