The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
I think (don't have a confirmed source to post) that all major sporting events were told by the government to up security at events this year. I say this because several schools have talked about increased security at games and NFL teams have been ordered by the league to do the same. In fact the Bengals are arguing with the city as to who pays for extra security. (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nfl&id=2177973)
Parkview Apartments are down from the stadium and right across from the Duck Pond and almost right next to the Islamic mosque or whatever they call it. They are on the same side of the street. Apartments are maybe two blocks from the stadium area on the eastside.
BTW, James Tyree is the best reporter in this area IMHO.
A lot of speculation going on with people I know. If it was a simple suicide, why blow themselves up with such a huge bomb. Norman police did say there was more than one device and now that story has changed since Homeland Security and FBI took over.
The only thing that I can be certain of, is that all call attempts to and from those cell/PCS zones were logged. It can take days to identify the specific "calls of interest", assuming that some SIM cards may have turned up....
Now its "The Stadium Incident"?
Well, having failed to promote rational thought, I will now retreat to NASCAR and football.
Thanks for that info, CedarDave.
They don't need to be cooperative if they are getting their information, or lack thereof, from the police and other authorities
You want a real laugh, watch the movie now. Verrrrrry campy.
I never heard of a bomb sweep before a game. Neither has anyone else I know.
cell phones are pretty tough, and rather protective of the sim cards, so they may be able to expidite such matters if our guy was carrying one. It would be interesting to know who he was talking to in the past few days...
Hoboken didn't get any brighter since last night. Remember what I said last night Hoboken ...... If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck .... it's most probably a duck. You seem to be insistant it's a Trumpeter Swan.
I think that while there is no proof either way, the burden of proof that this event is not dirty lies with you and not the known facts to date.
Also remember, they can't tell if it was a man or a woman. The body was pretty much blown apart.

Yeah, and that is what we've all been waiting for. What in the world is taking so long for them tell us?
PKM,
Do you have any way to get news about the 5 injured or the bus driver who was blown off his feet, or, perhaps, from the frat guy who felt the blast?
Yes, the first response always has a plan. I am also stating that the "incident" itself was planned and coordinated. Had this been a despondent nutjob with a big-@ssed firecracker, there would have been a statement to that effect. As well as double-secret probation for the fraternity involved <;-)
Because of my brain farts I am having a hard time picturing this. Part of MS is cognitive problems so please forgive my ignorance. I would like to know in your opinion if detonation of a bomb aboard one or more of these buses along the route you gave would produce maximum damage.
I understand it would just be an opinion but because you are so familiar with the route I give it a lot of credence.
I do know that blasts near a building are more dangerous than blasts out in open areas.
Libraries, bus stations, shopping malls, this list goes on. How many places could you not walk around in carrying just about any size package and not arouse suspicion as long as you're wearing brown coveralls and carrying a clipboard?
Nam Vet,
I have you 5 X 5.
Made sure when I posted that I said it was from people talking. Didn't want anyone to think I was stating fact, but was reporting what I was hearing.
Well it is kind of crude to say pieces of the body.
just read this on ESPN....how has this gone so unreported??
