The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
It's not a "purpose" so much as an adherence to pattern of journalistic behavior established by their peers. A sort of group-think, guided by the laws of political correctness. When you consider the conflict we're engaged in, the one with Wahabbi fanatics that dates back to February of 1993, it's not hard to understand how the "Islamic sensitivity" alarms went off in newsrooms across America when a bomb attached to a man went off in the parking lot during a University of Oklahoma football game.
It's not like the media hasn't done this before. Our country was attacked with anthrax, days after an Islamic terror attack. On the anthrax letters were phrases like "Allah Akbar!", "Death to America!" and "Death to Israel!". The media's conclusion: It was the work of anyone BUT Islamic radicals. Most likely a non-Islamic white guy who voted for Bush.
And as I noted earlier, Muslim DC sniper John Allen Mohammed was referred to as John Allen Williams after he murdered 11 Americans in a death-mobile registered one year to the minute of the 9/11 attacks.
The bottom line is, Islam is protected by the laws of political correctness. And the MSM ahdere strictly to those laws. This smells like a bungled terror attack. Everybody's thinking it, including the media. But because the damage was minimal and there is no compelling video to accompany the story, it's easy for the media to ignore it. Which is what they'd rather do anyway, as they've clearly demonstated.
>> Too early to make big predictions on what this is about <<
Correct. I don't dispute that, but if this is what I'm thinking it is, then it's too late to prepare.
Time will tell. Stay safe hoboken.
The spinners have arrived.
That would be those of us who DON'T jump to conclusions.
This was two weeks ago....I have since received Freepmail from credible sources that there was merit regarding this threat....but the sources had to be non-specific in their information due to security issues...
Keep in mind that since 9-11 USAFA has been mentioned as a target by Al-Queda but what was different from the "standing" threat a specific video was received threating the football stadium as the target and ancillary information regarding "possible" reconnaissance of the Academy was noted.
This is a hardened facility (military post) and would be a difficult target (although not impossible).
NeverGore :^)
I mean, this is the perfect kind of story for them to sensationalize. Look what they did in NO, with all the "rapes and baby murders". Never happened, but that certainly didn't stop them.
I don't think this is some big terrorist plot. But I do think the lack of media speculation, which is what they do best, is stunning.
Yes.
Let's just stick to facts that are reported:
3 buses were impounded
one of the bus drivers was taken to the hospital due to being knocked over by the blast
police told an eyewitness that they believed the bombs were to be attached to the buses
the force of the blast indicates full ordnance rather than pipe bomb
two mid east men were seen running away from the scene of the explosion into the crowd of the stadium after the blast
a second device had to be detonated by robot
police would not move the body until it was investigated for concealed ordnance
No one in any official capacity has even used the word terrorism.
Conclusion:
3 mideastern men planned to afix ordnance of a sophisticated kind to buses which would explode while filled with college students making this the first Israeli style terrorist attack on American soil.
As to the second bomb/not bomb that could easily be an example of first reports being inaccurate- it actually could be the squad doing a precautionary detonation of a back-pack or whatever. Now- if there really was another device and they're covering- that's really disturbing. Hard to know at this point.
I haven't read to the end yet...maybe this has sorted itself out by this time, and I should start reading from the end of the thread, but I'm thinking along the same lines.
I understand wanting to notify the Next of Kin first, but if the person isnt Middle Eastern, you'd think they would have said something generic about a young man from 'heartland USA' or something to help stop the inevitable speculation.
I remember on 9/11 hearing some reports that the State Department was attacked - then it wasn't. First reports aren't always completely accurate for many reasons.
OTOH, it seems as if the media are at the very least spinning this a bit...Bomb is no longer a word in use apparently, and you would think that they'd be on this like vultures. They run stories out of LA/Katrina that were inflammatory and inaccurate. Why so suddenly responsible?
Time will tell.
Posted by PhiKapMom to ovrtaxt On News/Activism ^ 10/02/2005 12:40:12 PM EDT · 72 of 81 ^ We have FBI, Homeland Security, ATF, and drug sniffing dogs on campus and they were there immediately last night from what I heard. There are some stories but very few and with little detail. Most of what I learned was from people on the scene when I was leaving the game and from what my son learned who is a GA and had to go to his office. It was NO pipe bomb, they found more bombs, they impounded three buses, etc. Those are just some of the reports I have picked up. One report from a Tulsa couple said a cop told them the buses around that part of campus might have been a target. It happened about 100 yards from the stadium in an area where if you leave the stadium to go east, you will walk right by. Last night first reports said no injuries other then the person who blew themself up and about four hours later they said five injuries. We do not have the whole story to put it mildly. |
They do, as I posted earlier. I'll be emailing a prof I know later today and ask him about it.
I checked out quite a few local news reports online for that area. Most had the same story , lack of information and the typical unreliable eyewitness accounts that were conflicting at points. Not much new today so far . I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I have a feeling next week this whole thing wont even be remembered. I think the news agencys dont know much at this point because the authorities dont either
It'll help if you read the posts on the thread before claiming that others are "ridiculous." There are at least two first-person accounts that suggest a suicide bomb. The police have been combing the campus ever since this incident happened. I hope this incident is merely a prank gone wrong. However, I would have to suspend my reasoning to do so.
Since when did suicide by bomb become a common occurence in the USA?
If your not hear to find the truth then why are you here? Why not turn off the computer and go take a seat in your lazy chair in front of the TV and turn on CNN. They will tell you everything you want to hear.
---So...you're pretty convinced this is the work of an Islamic terrorist .?---
There is an old medical school saying: When you hear the sound of hooves, look for horses, not zebras.
Right now so non-Islamic non-terrorist blowing themselves up to commit suicide outside a crowded stadium is a zebra.
Conclusion:
3 mideastern men planned to afix ordnance of a sophisticated kind to buses which would explode while filled with college students making this the first Israeli style terrorist attack on American soil.
WOW ..thats a real stretch there.
"The news blackout of this event is glaringly obvious. Why?"
For whatever reason, what this confirms, as we all know, is that we no longer have news in this country, but, rather, propaganda. To continue to coddle our children, young adults and us into a state of false sense of security in public.
Since radio based transmissions are easily suspended on orders, we must learn to use available land lines for FReeper communication. Also, we owe it to our families to instill in them an awareness of their surroundings and others' behaviors.
LOL.......the PC police is active and well on FR too.
Two bombs negates the suicide theory, don't you think?
Excellent analysis, The Westerner. Bump for this reply.
