The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
I agree, although we all need to see these reports confirmed and verified by multiple witnesses in the next few days. How many typical suicidal people are ambitious enough to go out and acquire high-grade explosives so they can blow themselves up outside a packed football stadium? When a shot in the head would work, why would someone apparently (according to reports) use enough explosives to kill perhaps 20 or more people? This is not a typical suicide, and there are definite indications of a failed terror attack.
Which reminds me of a long discussion we had around here a few years back over the mis-use of the term 'suicide bomber' as opposed to using 'homicide bomber'. This one's (at least literally) a suicide bomber.
Yep, why blow yourself up in a car...2 bombs also...wake up call # 497
Interesting analysis.......
Thanks! I saw that earlier in an email from The Oklahoman. Then I got an email from someone I know well at a local paper telling me that is the sanitized version.
yes, I'd say easily, easily 60%.
For example, in my particular wing/building I'm the only US Citizen out of the 24 units.
The rest are mostly Arab.
the rest Asian.
And one apartment in my bloc with East European (Polish, I think?) chicks...which I find to be a good thing...hehe
When I told people where I was living they advised me that I'd need a translator, but its been ok. Not very friendly folks, but they don't party, or have loud music.
I havent read everything ...this bomb was not in a car?
James Tyree is one of the best reporters in the area and the only one I like at the Norman Transcript.
News let it slip that the first bomb killed one male. Then the cover-up began..."cannot identify if male or female". Later, they let it slip again "He" blew himself up in a suicide.
Ever try to use a cell phone at or near a major college football game. Mostly you get "network busy", and if you can connect, the person at the game can't hear for Shiite.
Good .

The source for the 2nd explosive sounds to good to be fake.
That ends any theory that this person was only out to harm themselves. It just is not even and option.
Thanks! I came home expecting to find out everything about this from the local news -- very little. My daughter is in the Journalism College at OU and I told her to call me if she hears anything. I decided to see if FR had this and then reported what my kids and I had witnessed.
Possible Attempted Suicide bombing attempt in America's Heartland PING!
Stay on this one everybody!
Especially Oklahoma - based FReepers - no coverups allowed...
Pajamahadeen StormTrooper alert activated! All beebers set on "Stune".

Take it from me. Your description about the lack of music indicates that your neighbors are Wahabbi/Salafi sunnis.....the worst kind. I know these scoundrels well....lived among them for 24 years.
If you're stuck in a packed stadium during something worse than this, your best bet is to stay put in your seat. The worst will happen in the tunnels and choke points in a panic stampede.
And if you're seated in the lower part of an upper deck, get low, on the ground even, so that the "human avalanche" will pass above you.
It will even be dangerous to be in the "impact zones" just below the upper decks, in the event of a panic setting off a human avalanche.
Me, too. G'night all.
You mean O'Connell's? They usually give passes for halftime but not tonight. Didn't find that out until after the game.
Bingo.
I think you pegged it. Terrorist attack or not, it was an effort to disable a trigger, just in case. It may or may not have worked. We may never know.
Whenever something like this happens, I remember the President saying many times that in the WOT there would be many fronts...and victories that we would not even hear about.
I can live with that.
