OLN, NBC TO ENHANCE NHL COVERAGE by Joe Sager pittsburghpenguins.com 09/29/2005
Training Camp Home | Training Camp Roster
The NHL is back and better than ever. So is its national television coverage.
It all starts Saturday at 2 p.m. when NBC presents its NHL Fresh Ice: 2005-06 Season Preview and continues throughout the regular season and playoffs on OLN and NBC.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and phenom Sidney Crosby will lead things off for NBCs Fresh Ice show. The NBC crew of Mike Doc Emrick, John Davidson and Pierre Maguire visited Penguins training camp on Sept. 22 when the Penguins were in Wilkes-Barre. Davidsons chat with Mario Lemieux and Crosby will highlight Saturdays telecast, which features pieces on Flyers goaltender Robert Esche experimenting with NBCs goalie cam which will debut in January, Wayne Gretzky coaching in Phoenix, the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning and a visit to Detroit with Brendan Shanahan.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have so many veterans this team isnt just looking to Sidney Crosby to turn them around and make them a great team. I hope that Sidney improves. Let nature take its course as he becomes a star or a superstar. This kid is something special, Davidson said. He is a very, very special athlete and person. For some of us who have been around the league a long time, when someone like this comes around, we all count our blessings and hope he makes it because he is something special.

Go Penguins!!!! Our Canadian cousins say that Crosby is indeed the real deal, that is one area where I will default to their knowledge.
I hope OLN doesn't muck up the coverage like they did the outdoor motocross season this summer.
The best part about it is - no NBA (at least for a few more weeks). NBA - unwatchable.
Okay, so do you still root for the Bears? They are the Caps farm team now. And the Pens? That must be tough.
He's NOT on the roster! I beleive he retired and is playing for the team he owns in Sweden I think. Something like that. Bloody same, I love watching him and Joe play!
Damn straight! Very cool! I love in Oregon, never seen a game in person! Shucks. *kicking ground*
A friend of mine told me about Crosby. He said when Sid was 16 he was skating circles around the 18 year olds in Juniors.
Also said the kid has a sense of where the puck is going next, similar to Gretzky, and soft hands like Mario.
I can't wait!
BLECH!!!
You know, I understand your feelings, and shared them. But I got a chance to see how my boys (and the other kids in the crowd) react.
The youngsters like it, and they are the next generation of hockey fan.
And it's cool if your team wins in a shootout! that I know firsthand!
I hope your Penguano's enjoy Crosby.
But cross state we have the real TEAM deal with the Flyers! Last night the 2005 AHL Calder Cup champ Philly Phantoms in Flyers uniforms with the new Goon defence of Derian Hacher and Mike Rathje went toe to toe with the Jersey Devils! I can't wait to see Forseberg and Primeau join this bunch.
Ahh! Hockey is back!
Hockey bump from the deep south. I notice several games will be shown in HD. Can't wait!
Wow they're actually doing stuff to build the audience, I'm really starting to like the new contract, ESPN never seemed to even contemplate anything like this.
We'll see how much the refs let the goon stuff go. Tat's where the Flyers are best! Goon stuff!8^)
What the heck is OLN?
With many thanks to Hat Trick, here is the most current and up to date "Hockey Png List!"
Let me or Hat Trick know if you want off or on!
As our young son would say...."Go Dallas Stars".....
Mom and dad would say..."Go Av's!"
OK,eh!
A lot of hockey scouts thought Lindros was NHL-ready by the time he was 15 years old (he was about 6-3, 215 pounds back then).
You already were on, you hoser! ;^)
Try these guys!
