I am almost positive I heard on the radio Friday that evacuees from hospitals were brought to Raleigh.
Wake County Welcomes Rita Evacuees As Katrina Evacuees Leave
The first plane from Beaumont, Texas, arrived in Raleigh with 33 people at about 4:45 a.m. Thirteen of them were taken to hospitals while the other 20 were taken to recuperate at the shelter before they were moved into hotels or other lodging. They'll return home after the storm blows through, officials said.A second plane arrived later Friday with 61 people, and at least 35 of them were carried off the plane on stretchers, Brown said. About a third of them went to a triage area at the airport and then to area hospitals. The rest went to the shelter.

I looked at katrina as she passed over Fla, and I decided it was time to get ready of a major hurricane. I filled my 35 gal reserve tank but I did not fill the 55 gal reserve. I am pissed I did not, I could have opened Jim's gas station and made a nice profit once all the local gas stations closed. I will learn that lesson a fill both tanks soon. Right now my 35 gal reseve is on a rescue mission, couple of friends stock on the side of the road.
Local (Galveston county) government did a great job during this hurricane, but local MUD is going to catch hell, so are local food stores. All bailed oujt 3 days before the storm even hit! No water, no food, no nothing and the huricane was still 500 miles away! My business was open until tropical storm force wind hit San Leon on friday and open again this (sat) morning. Thank God no fire happened, but then again the fire department was entirely gone too. I am pissed, every damn local govenment person left 2 days before the storm hit. That is total BS, grow some bulls damn it, what kind of government just packs up and leaves? Only two local businesses stayed open, and mine was one of them.

We stayed behind in Corpus (Padre Island) when it looked like Rita was swinging north.
No rain, no clouds and only a little wind. Surge on the beach was about 3-4 feet, I guess. On the back side of the island where we live, the water only came up a couple of feet...
We're thankful for the "miss".

Getting the eastern side this time as opposed to Katrina made Rita seem even worse here even though this storm passed at some 50+ miles farther away.

Hi...I'm checking in...we made it through Rita good...damage was minimal...just branches down and alot of trash in the yard. Gosh, I'm glad it's over! I live to the East of where it came on land and we had some pretty strong winds. I hope that the Gulf coast can get a rest for the remainder of the seanson.
It's a good thing we lost power when we did. I woke up around 3 A.M. from the heat, and kept my friend calm via text messaging throughout the worst of it. At one point, they couldn't pick up any AM signal, so I was their eyes and ears. Simply amazing.
Thank God Rita weakened. Despite the panic mode and hoarding, there were some folks out there that were truly unprepared.
