Extremely dangerous and large Category Five Hurricane Rita is churning westward across the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas. Air Force Reconnaissance indicated the central pressure has dropped to 904mb, making Rita the fifth most intense hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin.
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Northern Mexico through the South Louisiana coastline. Galveston TX used school buses to evacuate residents. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect along the Texas coastline.

Folks who evacuated won't get home.
steve lyons on TWC now - he says its going to weaken, to a 4 or perhaps to a 3 by landfall, saying that outflow on the western side of the storm is being blocked.
Nope the nose gear skidded...and when the rubber on the tires was gone....the metal made some awesome sparks...but no damage...the plane just coasted to a stop...

F3 tornado to be exact. I hope that the nighttime and shallows nearer to shore weaken it a bit.
Yeah well, if one thing has remained predictable thus far this year it's that they sure as hell seem to be wrong quite often lately.
After our third one last year here in Florida the novelty had wore off.
This didn't hit home for me until I lost my shared servers this evening at HP in Houston. I'm guessing they shut everything down and have bugged-out.
My heart goes out to all impacted.

that's the best news of the night if it happens, a very pretty but deadly 5 out in the middle of nowhere that goes to a low 4..I wouldn't bet my life on it but it sounds good!

Watching a litte bit of ABC's show "Invasion." Tonight it's about a hurricane strike on Miami or Homestead, with aliens or something controlling the hurricane.
