As I was listening the news conference with Galveston officials this afternoon, I was wishing one of them would have used that line on the reporters asking the bus questions.

Not really with all my animals and I will have my Daughter in Law and Granddaughter and their animals. I have a very Pregnant English Bull dog. My son is a Galveston County Deputy and has to work. He will spend the storm in the Galveston County jail.He goes to work Friday am and won't be home till whenever. My son from Atlanta called tonight and told us to come over there but the traffic is so awful getting out of here the storm would hit before we even got out of the area.

Find a nearby tall parking structure and park on an upper level.

I'd like to slap the media people who continue to say "Texas has learned from NO."

NOT HARDLY.
Texans know how to react and y'all have leadership that's competent.

Good luck. We're down Gessner almost to Hammerly. I've been a lurker for years. Just don't have much to say. We'll be here for the duration.

Our Nephew and his wife are riding out the storm in Houston. My Grandbabies are on their way to Tyler. Son is at Fort Hood which should be OK. Everyone is trying to talk our Nephew to get the heck out of town.

I just got shelter savvy...this is how the pet shelters work...you take your animals to another location...and it will have every animal there...trust me...my place had goats, sheep, pigs and horses...I am not kdding plus rabbits and snakes...I am not making this up.

They will have you fill out 5 pieces of paper...they will take a picture of you and you holding your pet. They will scan the document you sign with the picture...you will leave your animal behind...the human shelters do not allow animals.

Broke my heart to leave my 2 dogs, but I know they are safe and being cared for by Texas A&M folks.

I just need to get a hotel that will allow me and my 2 small bichons a place to stay for the next few days plus my squeeze.

So far...the humans are comfy...but I know the next few days will get old in a shelter and I am sure my dogs are panic stricken...

I just would like to get further away...but have no place to go with 2 dogs...and the only shelters were in Lufkin, Huntsville and Bryan College Station...

So I am sort of trapped.

Well as for my plans...... who knows. But most likely we'll head out tomorrow for points north, Dallas area to stay with the kids. We have most things ready to roll except for loading the vehicle and going and getting in the parking lot headed north. I have a couple of windows I'm going to board up and that's it.

They haven't called for a mandatory evac in our county as of yet but may do so tomorrow. Depending upon how much of a northerly turn the storm takes will determine the impact on our area. If it stays on track as it is now then we can look for winds to be in the 50-75 mph range according to our meteorologist. However he is still hedging his bets because the high is slowly beginning to break and move to the east. This will determine the steering currents and thus the landfall.

There has been a steady to fairly heavy flow from our area headed to the north based upon what I was seeing when I came back from Little Rock this afternoon. Many businesses, schools, etc are closed for the remainder of the week to allow people to move out.

Our plans are somewhat fluid but mostly complete and point to us heading north sometime tomorrow. Take care.

Actually it's the high over northeast Texas, now moving east,

Actually it did split, part will go southwest, the other part is heading east. Rita will charge up between them ... somewhere.

Will you be able to come online at all?

And are they turning the highways all one way tomorrow?

Even Tyler is expected to get a lot of rain and wind damage. I'd get as far away from Houston as possible. I'm 180 miles north of Houston and southwest of Tyler but I'm expecting a lot of wind and rain. Tomorrow morning I'm having dueling chainsaws starting about 7:30 AM to limit the damage. I don't want a 10,000 pound tree falling on my kitchen or bedroom. Get him out of there.

Oh me too! He has plenty of family in TX to go and visit. I may just thump him on the noggin over this.

Thank you! The media seems to think we've never seen a hurricane --and learned from NO. Well, what NOT to do!.

You're welcome! I am so damn mad about that, I could throw something into the tv but then I wouldn't have one.

Get him out of there.

Praying hard for him to have a change of heart. His mom lives in San Angelo so it isn't like he doesn't have a place to go.

They're saying that the pilot will try a "soft field" landing.

I saw the video. Pretty amazing that nose gear was down and locked, but rotated 90 degrees from where it should have been. Looked like both wheels eventually broke up and he ended up on the end of the strut. Despite lots of smoke, sparks and fire, he kept it going down the middle. It was good landing. Everyone walked away from it.
