They're saying that the pilot will try a "soft field" landing.

I saw the video. Pretty amazing that nose gear was down and locked, but rotated 90 degrees from where it should have been. Looked like both wheels eventually broke up and he ended up on the end of the strut. Despite lots of smoke, sparks and fire, he kept it going down the middle. It was good landing. Everyone walked away from it.

That was some landing, wasn't it? I was surprised the gear didn't shear, but they did the right thing in landing at LAX.
