Smoking Ban Meeting Planned For Tuesday

POSTED: 7:04 pm CDT September 19, 2005 UPDATED: 1:35 pm CDT September 20, 2005

MADISON, Wis. -- The Madison Common Council is preparing to clear the air on the city's smoking ban Tuesday night.

Many of those who have rallied to repeal the smoking ban are expected to attend Tuesday night's common council meeting.

Three smoking-related things are on the agenda including an outright appeal of the ban, an amendment to allow businesses to apply for a hardship exemption and a proposal for a citywide referendum.

"It doesn't look like there's enough votes to repeal the ban," said Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. "And at this point, it doesn't look like there are enough votes for the other options as well. At this point, it looks like the smoking ban will remain in place."

Spokesmen for the group that supports repealing the smoking ban said they have eight of the 11 votes needed for repeal.

I am done with these 2 brain-dead neanderthals.

A wise choice.

What a wonderful way to spend the first day of Autumn, filling the house with the smell of apples cooking.

Enjoy!

Government control what I do with my own body?

I thought that was unconstitutional.

Hi I read about it just now. I think "eminent domain" and "Kelo decision" are like taking the law too far.

I do not agree with it.

Want smoke free air? Then buy your own bar or restaurant and make it smoke free. Otherwise, let the owner of the property (and air) decide for himself.

I love cooking apples.

I've got a half bushel in the pot right now and am taking a break - when the timer goes off I will start adding the next half bushel. That's the max amount I can deal with at a time. Once those are all in the pot I will start on the watermelon rind pickles I want to try. My daughter picked 2 more from her patch yesterday and I don't want them to go to waste

Your use of the word public caused the lashing in your direction. As a newbie to FR you may not know, but after this thread you have hopefully learned, be specific in your statements. If you mean privately owned, then state private property. When you use the general term "public" it means that the public has access for use of the property, not necessarily that the public owns it.

That might be a societal difference between the US and India.
