This is the entire post at The Corner. No source cited. For the Rats, it's all over except for the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Specter just officially announced his support for Roberts.

Heaven help me; I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing...

I was pleased with how Specter ran the hearings (putting the RATS in their place) but have been disappointed by his TV appearances.... not the abortion stuff but his hesitancy to publicly affirm the President's good selections.

It's about time. Though he kept the Dems in good order during the hearings, he didn't exactly rush to support his President's nominee, did he?

Its not over. They already have their plan in place. They are going to now play the delay, delay, delay game. The dems will say that Roberts did not answer their questions and they need more information on him. They will demand additional documents and not get them. They will use this to justify a fillibuster. The dems MO is to obstruct any and everything.

Fine, let them. But Roberts clearly passed with the American public.

Did you expect otherwise? True he is a RINO but not to the extent that he will oppose Roberts.

Pat Toomey's candidacy had a salutary effect. Specter even has to act like he's GOP once in a while.

Of course it's a good thing.

Specter had better support every Bush judicial nominee, or he'll be chairman of that committee for about 24 more hours.

Does that mean O'Connor's replacement has to be to the left of her in some deal?

Yep. Scottish Law Specter is a reliable Republican vote. Just ask impeached and removed President Clinton or Supreme Court Justice Robert Bork.

But he also "advised" the president to send a moderate next time. Whattan idiot and an ungrateful one at that. Without Pres. Bush's help in the last election, Specter would now be a specter in of the Senate.

RINO's supporting W - that must mean that the agreement is in that the next nominee will be fillibustered.

As much as it may pain people here to admit it, I think the whole "smooth road" for Roberts is courtesy of Sen. Specter, his repayment to Bush for the election support. I don't know what he'll do with the next appointee, but listening to the hearings, he was a bear on the Dems.

If the RATS even attempt to filibuster Roberts or the next USSC nominee, Frist will go to the nuclear option within 24 hours. Enough is enough.

We need more people to explain to even their local affiliates that the RATS do not control the Senate and we don't give a damn about what/who they want. We have the votes; they don't.

Let the RATS filibuster a female jurist for a slot on the USSC.... will only help GOP electoral prospects in 2006.

Precisely my reaction. Normally this would mean:

Specter Support = Roberts is neither a conservative nor an originalist.

However, I'll withhold judgment for now. Lets wait until we have some history, say in a year or two. By then, we will know one way or the other.

Don't ask me if I'm optimistic...
