Okay....now he is talking about Adm. Allen....saying that "in his opinion"...that they have worked together well.

He feels that it is important for them to come back to city---picked zip codes with little or no flooding...

"I understand the federal govt. were a little "excited" about the plan, and felt that things weren't quite right"...

NOw he is blaming the EPA for not getting the report to him for a week and a half....but after that HE decided it was okay to come back...

Sadly, we are full up to the brim with NOLA here. Every hotel room, church, civic center, spare space available is full. I have driven by the local shelter here and you should see the supplies, believe me when I say that the supplies are prepositioned at the moment. We live in a very generous country and I live in a very generous city.

I don't plan on the government to provide. I plan ahead and take care of myself and those in my family. God gave me a brain and the abilities to fend for myself. If everybody would simply do the same we wouldn't need much from the ptb except to clear the roads, restore utilities, and keep the order. Too many people though don't plan and prepare to get out of harm's way making it necessary for the government to take more control than needed.

From Nagin interview on FOX for cubicle bound

"Re-entry has been going very smoothly.

Regarding Admiral Allen
From my perspective we have been working very well with the federal authorities, making a lot of progress, working very diligently, and all the things associated with getting city moving in the right directions....
I felt it was very important to get citizens to come back to the city and to have a city to come back to

We strategically picked the zip codes

I understand the federal government was a little excited about the plan

What was the health assessment risk

I have been asking for a report for at least a week and a half, I have had my health guy look at a draft

And we determined there was no air borne risk

A couple of key challenges

We have to assess water quality

Challenges are on the east bank

We know that there are sewer challenges

The next thing I was concerned about, where would people get supplies, food, cleaning apparatus

Some retailers are ready to come in and deal with that

Final piece, where was the water, how was it being drained.

We have made progress.

And then, the hospitals. We have made progress.

The report is that Turot Hospital will be ready for emergency services this coming Wed.

Also, we have word that USS Comfort is on its way.

That's why we went ahead with our re-entry program.

182,000 people in targeted zip codes.

We did not want them to take children, there are no schools.

We just wanted these people to take a peek at what they have lost and what they have left."

According to Cavuto FOX, Nagin eating a little bit of crow.

Well, that was interesting. I'm looking forward to Nagin's "suspension of the suspension of reentry," all of it while trying to look like he planned it or something and everybody else is to blame for screwing it up.

Here in Fla. we learned a few things about hurricanes. First thing: Re-elect Jeb! 2nd thing, make sure all important papers and family pics are in plastic containers and ready to roll. Make a thermos of coffee in advance in case there is no power, fill the tub and washer with water just in case needed and have batteries, tarps for the roof, gas in the car, bug spray, keep shoes on in case of broken glass and you have to walk anywhere, and stay away from big trees. Do not park your vehicle near a big tree if you can help it. They can fall even after the storm from the weight of the water. My neighbors heated bath water in the sun in a giant new trash can and used a gas grill on the porch. Plastic milk containers filled with water and frozen in advance make for good ice later.

Not any longer. Most of the seawall is only 2-3 feet above the sand. Go to the San Luis and take a look. The politics of Galveston at work.

I've never seen such out-and-out CYA in my entire life.

God works in mysterious ways, but Nagin, takes the cake.

He is a disrespectful jerk...

and I LOVE how he said that he wants to err on the side of conservatism...re: Hurricane Rita...and start evacuations.

I think this guy got TOLD his talking points..by the good Admiral...but his is mad, and has to make the wise cracks to show he is "kewl"...and that he doesn't like being bossed around.

That kind of attitude would NOT make be feel very comfortable about the future of my city.

Yes, I AM watching this closely...

Jeez man weren't we just talking about this earlier?? Flooding could be an issue, but it depends on how fast the storm is moving. Winds can be a problem, but what you really want to watch for is tornadoes. The best idea at this time is to stock up on water and non perishables....

Thanks for the ping. I live in Seabrook just blocks from Galveston Bay in Harris Co. My area of town is where the weather guys usually go to show the water washing over Todville road. If this thing reaches a category 3 we are packing up and heading out. Katrina was a real eye opener. In the past we've always just riden the storms out. Boy was Alicia fun in the early 80's and boy were we stupid! Now all I can say is the only rita I want has a marga in front of it.

Imagine allowing folks to return to their homes when there's no city services like police, fire and ambulence/hospital... let alone a suspect water supply.

He looks at his city thru the eyes of a thug?

That is a good list....but, if I lived in the Houston area, all I would need is my key to my car...to head NORTH...

LOL...just kidding! I am impressed with that list...and even living in north Texas..with possible tornadoes from Rita...I am NOT taking this lightly.

One thing is sure, Nagin never thinks of the possibilities beyond his control. Hurricane Ray (Nagin) makes a leftward turn toward stupidity.
