The Hill newspaper gives us a peek at the Democratic playbook for the Roberts hearings. Below are the attack assignments for the Democratic members of the Committee:

Kennedy -- civil rights

Leahy -- Bybee torture memo

Biden -- privacy, personal autonomyand the 9th Amendment

Kohl -- Property rights and civil liberties

Feinstein -- "judicial activism" and Roe vs. Wade

Feingold -- limits of executive powers

Schumer and Durbin have wisely refused to show their hand.

ken5050 asked a while back what the vote would be and I said I think we can peel off maybe two Dems and I gave my reasons:

Look at it this way ken. They know they have nothing to stop JR (Roberts). They also know their base will accept JR as CJ because he's "replacing" Rhenquist and not O'Connor.

So, in order to seem 'bi-partisan' for the next nomination (where they will really go full tilt), a few might peel off and vote for JR. It will give them cover for the BIG fight coming up whenever W announces the next nominee.

We all do, but I don't think we can say that Roberts won't. We have nothing to base that assumption on.

I'm afraid the dummies are hardely noticing the Roberts confirmation hearings, or anything else. They are still wrapped up in TAKING CHIMP DOWN over Katrina.

I should have known. Depend on the Dems to fail to recognize a major event.

Dems are toadies.

Toady

A person who flatters or defers to others for self-serving reasons; a sycophant.

[From TOAD.]

WORD HISTORY   The earliest recorded sense (around 1690) of toady is “a little or young toad,” but this has nothing to do with the modern usage of the word. The modern sense has rather to do with the practice of certain quacks or charlatans who claimed that they could draw out poisons. Toads were thought to be poisonous, so these charlatans would have an attendant eat or pretend to eat a toad and then claim to extract the poison from the attendant. Since eating a toad is an unpleasant job, these attendants came to epitomize the type of person who would do anything for a superior, and toadeater (first recorded 1629) became the name for a flattering, fawning parasite. Toadeater and the verb derived from it, toadeat, influenced the sense of the noun and verb toad and the noun toady, so that both nouns could mean “sycophant” and the verb toady could mean “to act like a toady to someone.”

noun -- One who flatters another excessively: adulator, courtier, flatterer, sycophant. Informal apple-polisher. See over/under, praise/blame.

verb -- To support slavishly every opinion or suggestion of a superior: bootlick, cringe, fawn, grovel, kowtow, slaver, truckle. Informal apple-polish, brownnose, cotton. Slang suck up. Idioms: curry favor, dance attendance, kiss someone's feet, lick someone's boots. See over/under.

I would have thought your misspelling of "persuit" was a typo but "u" is so far from "e" that it seems unlikely. In case you're not an English speaker, let me respond in simple words:

Why did you send me this post? Your response is addressed to me but is responding to a post of Howlin's. I'm not sure what you're trying to say. It doesn't seem to me that your post is responsive to anything I've said on this thread. Care to clarify?
