Of course it's Bush's fault. Everything is Bush's fault. If Hillary ever gets hemorrhoids, I'm sure the dems will issue a press release indicating it's Bush's fault. If they'd have spent only 1/4 the energy and money that they've blown trying to destroy GW, on trying to help the President instead, America would REALLY be something!

Just reminded me of the NYC blackout a few years ago. I don't think they ever found out the cause.

Found it -> https://reports.energy.gov/BlackoutFinal-Web.pdf

Earlier this month, the U.S. - Canada Power System Outage Task Force issued its final report on the Aug. 14, 2003, Midwest blackout and the associated widespread outages that extended to the Northeast and Canada. The report confirmed the root causes of the blackout inadequate situational awareness at FirstEnergy; inadequate management of tree growth in transmission rights-of-way by FirstEnergy; and failure of the interconnected grids reliability organizations to provide effective real-time diagnostic support. It added a fourth group of causes related to the failure to understand the inadequacies of FirstEnergys system regarding voltage instability and reactive power management. The reports principal recommendations included strengthening the institutional framework for reliability management in North America and making reliability standards mandatory and enforceable. One conclusion of the report is that it is essential to manage reliability and system security on a regional basis not just through separate utility-based control areas. The Task Force reaffirmed that independent power producers were not a cause of the blackout. The report also included a recommendation that an independent study of the relationship between reliability management, competition and industry restructuring be conducted. The Task Force explained that competitive power markets have, according to the Department of Energy, helped Americans save almost $13 billion annually, and that the recommended study should emphasize how the relationship between reliability and competition should be managed to best serve the public interest. A copy of the final report is available at https://reports.energy.gov/BlackoutFinal-Web.pdf.

Fires burning not YET believed to be related to mass outage.

No word yet, so can't link them. (FNC)

Must be ten threads on this subject. Not sure, but whatever panic disease the MSM has must be contagious, for many FReepers here have contracted it.

Gridlock is not terribly unusual at even this time of day. I'm about to get on the freeway ... only two blocks from the office. The freeway should be clear. :-D

Well, this one should be interesting. I heard on the radio that someone accidently cut some wire. Based on how little reporters understand, who knows what this means.

The WECC Daily Report shows the following, so it could easily have been a maintenance worker who messed up.

The CMRC reported the following outages for today:

From 0000-2400 the COI may be limited to 4,500 MW north to south due to Northern CA Hydro and Midpoint-Summer Lake line loading. From 0600-0800 the COI is further limited to 2,400 MW north to south and 2,450 MW south to north due to Grizzly-Malin #2 500-kV line outage.

From 0800-2400 it is further limited to 1,600 MW north to south and 2,450 MW south to north due to the Grizzly-Malin #2, Buckley-Marion #1, Ashe-Marion #2, Schultz- Raver #1 and Schultz-Echo Lake #1 500-kV line outages.

From 0000-2400 the PDCI may be limited to 2,084 MW south to north due to CISO Operating Procedure T-116Q.

From 0600-2400 the PDCI is further limited to 2,805 MW north to south and 1,904 MW south to north due to the Grizzly-Malin #2, Buckley-Marion #1, Ashe-Marion #2, Schultz-Raver #1 and Schultz-Echo Lake #1 500-kV line outages.

From 0000-2400 the Path 44 is limited to 1,650 MW north to south due to the TL 23002/23010 contingency which is the availability to drop load limit south of SONGS.

From 0000-2400 the West of River/Path 46 is limited to 10,088 MW east to west due to Eldorado-Lugo 500-kV series capacitor segment #3 at Lugo by-passed. From 0000-1600 it is further limited to 10,058 MW east to west due to the McCullough-Victorville capacitor outage.

From 0700-1500 it is further limited to 8,967 MW east to west due to McCullough- Victorville #1 500-kV line outage.

Seems Koreatown is affected by the power outage as well, so obviously Bush does not like Asians either!;)

Well it is affecting parts of Disney, cause I work for Disney in Florida and it has caused some of our computer programs which are connected to in California to go down.

Hard to believe one line being cut would trigger an outage of this size.

Official (?) FD word to FNC's Anita Vogel: Accident committed by DWP employee. Already working on "correcting the problem." LAPD is on full tactical alert. FD patrolling areas. Power is coming back on in certain parts of city.

No, that's just silly. People can always go down and listen to their car radio. Not to mention that such a dirty bomb is designed to create panic, so why would they want to knock out the media?

Odds are very strong that this (like so many other previous incidents) has nothing to do with terrorism. But if it does, the power outage is probably an ends to itself, to scare. Which would also suggest that this the best that they can do.
