PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: After the President and First Lady attended church in Washington this morning, they participated in a September 11, 2001 rememberance and moment of silence on the White House lawn. GWB then headed for New Orleans where he touched down mid-afternoon. He will be spending the night aboard the USS Iwo Jima, which is docked in New Orleans harbor near downtown.
The President was met by New Orleans Mayor Nagin, but Gov. Kathleen Blanco was not present.
Patriot Day 2005 Proclamation
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America
Four years have passed since our country was brutally attacked on a quiet September morning. On that day, thousands of innocent lives were taken from us. The victims and the families who lost loved ones remain in the hearts and prayers of our Nation. We also remember the courage of the firefighters, police officers, emergency rescue personnel, and scores of private citizens who showed us the true meaning of heroism and demonstrated our resolve to the world.
The mission that began on September 11, 2001, continues. Today, we see the virtue of the September 11th heroes embodied in our military personnel, who are taking the fight to our enemies and helping to keep us safe at home. Thousands of other Americans, from intelligence analysts to border guards to countless others, are doing vital work to help defend America and prevent future attacks. We are grateful to all of these men and women and to their families for their service and sacrifice. We honor those who have lost their lives defending our freedom, and we pray that God comfort their families. We pledge that we will not rest until we have won the war on terror.
As we mark this solemn anniversary, I call upon all our citizens to express their patriotism and their gratitude for the blessings of liberty. By flying the flag, supporting military families, and teaching young people about our founding ideals, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and since, and we help preserve our freedom for future generations.
By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107 89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2005, as Patriot Day. I call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half staff on Patriot Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, to display the flag at half staff from their homes on that day, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this ninth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtieth.
GEORGE W. BUSH
God Bless you Sara sleep well
DrDeb, thanks for the link to that superb article. I read it when it was first posted, but enjoyed reading it again.
Grin...thanks TPC. I wanted people to know about the .zip file you created and where to access it.
I caught a headline the other day that Colin Powell was slamming his own speech at the UN about WMD, and if he cannot even stand up for himself, he is pathetic. I did not catch the media outlet, but it means he is out there talking to the "has been" media. He is still mad because GWB did not keep him on and promoted Condi instead.
She's disgusting. There are many things I admire about the British people. One is your highly estimable decorum and reserve in the face of disaster. A Kathleen Blanco would not do well as a politician in the UK.
I also had a crush on Roger, I thought he was awesome!
A former co-worker's husband was one of Roger's college roommates. She said her husband always told her what a great guy he was, and of course, I wasn't surprised!
Good idea, I would be happy to do so. I hope he ever gets the messages. He could probably use the support to counteract the liberal lies and spin about his popularity. All I know is that he's very popular with me and mine.
Mediacrats. I like that. Gonna steal it. ;-)
I think that is GWB's lucky blue shirt.

I don't know snugs. It is the fourth anniversary of 9/11. I am just glad to be an American. I don't need much more than that today.
I saw that too. The reporter never did explain why they were following that chopper with the little dog in it. I kept hoping it was Snowball, and they were on their way to deliver the dog to that poor little boy who loves him so.
I don't care for the guy, honestly, but I really do not think he is out to get the President. The two families got together recently. They understand each other.
I think the President asked him to go because he had not done a good job cleaning up State. This President expects results. He didn't get them and asked him to go. Powell was ready as well, I think.
Snowball has certainly tugged my heart strings I just hope he is alive and being looked after somewhere
Thanks as always for your great article finds! I've told several people about the "real" story behind the response and they're all surprised by the utter failure of the mayor and governor.
Hope you had a good day. I watched several shows about 9/11 and what led up to it and what happened today; I do not think I could bear to watch the movie about Flight 93. God bless every innocent who lost their life that day, and those who miss them.
Hi, glad you're enjoying the Dose tonight. I think we all needed to see the lighter side of GWB today after the tough couple of weeks we've all been through.
President Bush talks to Gary Garwood of Pleasantview, Ill., and his dog 'Louie' while visiting a first responders base camp in Algiers, La., on the outskirts of New Orleans, Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005. Garwood, who is a firefighter, rescued 'Louie' and gave him his name after Louisiana. Bush has returned to the Gulf coast region to see first-hand the ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina.
Thanks for the thread on the anniversary of that sad day.
The Pres. looks good, but to me Laura looks tired and like she's lost even more weight! She is an amazing woman, supporting her husband in his job when she would have been more than content to live at their ranch in Texas.
God bless and protect and guide them both!
LOVE your tagline!
