A Fox reporter in NO was asked on air what it was like now in New Orleans. She replied that aside from the horrible stink from sewage the air is full of the mournful cries of cats and dogs dying of thirst, hunger, and injuries as they stand on roof tops and drag themselves along the roadways. They don't know why they have been left to die. So sad.
Please... also give to animal rescue organizations! Thanks.
"I could never, ever leave my pets behind."
I've had pets my whole life but if it came to my dog or myself, fido's going down.
If "they" are the news reporters, then they should know why: humans are more important than animals. The authorities should not waste a second rescuing pets until all the people were safe.
Not to mention a built-in flotation device (two, actually).
Agreed...
I do, and I'm not too keen on the Houston SPCA after watching that.
I've seen them do a lot of questionable "rescues" -- where they confiscated pets who pretty healthy to me, and who had loving owners.
Sure, some of the situations might have been less than optimal for the animals. But in many cases it just looked to me like the Houston SPCA was being terribly cruel --to both pets and their humans, for no really good reason.
Then I found some postings on the web about a program ABC news apparently did, that gave credence to some of the charges that the Houston SPCA goes to far in confiscating animals.
So I don't know whom to trust, but for now, I'm favoring www.petfinder.org for my donated $$$. I know they're working in the N.O. and Mississippi areas and are doing a fantastic job.
I would like to send my scary dog to NO to chase some morons around.
I am with you, friend. Our German Shepard is our best friend. I would die before I left him.
If it were, for example, take my children and live, or stay with the pet and probably die...I would leave the pet. Actually, being from the west and as the father in the home, I would probably put the animal down before I did so.
Can there ever be a sadder story than all of this that is going on in New Orleans? :o(
It's against the law to ABANDON your pets.......I heard that they can't make you leave your pets....
hahahahah, finally, a sane reply.
Agreed; I'd give my life up for my family....but not my pet....doesn't mean I don't care....but priorities are priorities.....
I found some good news earlier today:

You ought to pay a little more attention to your pup's gums...and stop sharing the snuff....;-)
It doesn't sound stupid. I agree 100%. That is EXACTLY what I say about my Huskies.
