A Fox reporter in NO was asked on air what it was like now in New Orleans. She replied that aside from the horrible stink from sewage the air is full of the mournful cries of cats and dogs dying of thirst, hunger, and injuries as they stand on roof tops and drag themselves along the roadways. They don't know why they have been left to die. So sad.
Please... also give to animal rescue organizations! Thanks.
:-(
I can't handle this. I could never, ever leave my pets behind. The thought of it makes me sick.
Me either. But unfortunately, some of these pets weren't "left behind" on purpose -- their owners drowned.

They have been so overwhelmed with donations their server is out. Keep trying.
This is one of the best -- they were the first to get official permission to send rescuers into the area.

I suppose you're right. That's even worse. My God it's sad.
Where's PETA?????
The silence is deafening (well, except for those mournful cries and howls from the animals).
Simply heartbreaking.
Ah geezz.....this breaks my heart. We are so helpless to help these darling pets. May God help his littlest creatures.
Our guys are starting to round them up now. They've built a kennel at the Navy yard and are picking them up as they find them.
A group of evacuees from New Orleans arrived in Milwaukee this afternoon. Many of them had their dogs.
One man had 6 dogs and said that the NOPD wouldn't help him, telling him to abandon the dogs and walk out. He said that the NOPD was trying to starve people out, refusing to even give them water.
The 82nd Airborne got him and his dogs to safety.
You can't just sit on your roof forever, if the helicopters won't take your pets what are you gonna do?
It may sound stupid, but I couldn't leave my German Shepard behind. Period. I would float out on a piece of freaking debris until I hit dry ground, before I left her behind. If I had to walk 100 miles with her, and beg for some scraps for her, that's what I'd do. She's my best friend.
In all the rescue footage I saw the military helo crews were placing the dogs in the basket with the owners.
"He said that the NOPD was trying to starve people out, refusing to even give them water."
Where IS PETA? You would think they would go rescue some animals. Why isn't Pamela Anderson out there trying to save them? She already has Hepatitis, anyway...
I have 100% confidence mine would be doing fine, though I would have left days before Katrina and taken them with me.
