Governor Blanco just said on Fox News Channel that Mayor Nagin does not have the authority to order evacuation of New Orleans, that the authority rests with her....and she doesn't have evidence that it is unsafe!

IMO, whoever is 'using her' to cover whatever needs to be covered....

But I believe Blanco intentionally held off calling in the National Guard to restore order in New Orleans. She did this because she knows that if a white governor orders NG into a situation where they may be obliged to shoot black thugs, the "OJ/Rodney King/Malice Green" factor would come into play. She would be blamed for ordering the killing of some desperate and poor black men and she would never be reelected in Louisiana.
So she chose to wait, hoping that the firm hand would come from either Nagin or the President and they could shoulder the blame for the rough law enforcement.
It was a purely political decision on her part and she continues to play politics.
The radio report I heard (Fox Radio News) said the bacteria was cholera-like but not actually cholera. There was no doubt whatsoever that it was toxic soup.

Someone had better make her get her POMPOUS HEARTLESS ARSE down into the areas that need to be fully evacuated and FORCE her to spend a few days there..without fancy food, digs or water. No cocktails, no advisers (like james witt) and no body guards. Just rats, snakes, steaming toxic water and a simple house that is full of mold.
Just the gov....proving to the world that NO is a safe place to live.
IF ever there were a racist, and I mean this, I believe it is this woman. She above all, should understand the heartbreak of having to leave your home because the surrounding environment is not safe and will not sustain a normal business trade that all families need to depend upon to live.
She allowed the ignorance to flourish, all liberals see this as a benefit, easier to dupe and keep their voting block intact.
Now she needs to ORDER those who cannot understand exactly why they have to leave, HAVE TO LEAVE and she needs to do it in person.
She wants the feds and other organizations to HAND DELIVER NECESSITIES to these people, themselves having to traverse through environmental pollution that is dangerous, SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE THINKS SHE WILL LOOK GOOD IF SHE DOES NOT FORCE PEOPLE TO LEAVE THEIR HOMSE? Taking up not only these resources for a use that could have been prevented....but allowing these people to live in risky, health destroying enirons? And was about the MONEY this will cost to the taxpayers...money that could be used to reestablish and HELP these people begin a new life?

I fear it is worse than that Pirogue Captain. It appears most on this thread complete ignore the U.S. Constitution. They think of themselves as Americans completely forgetting that they are State Citizens first. This kind of philosophy negates our Republican form of Government and can only lead to a dictatorship.
Governor Blanco is responsible to the citizens of Louisiana ...only they can fire her. She has obligation to explain her actions to the Federal Government or any other citizen of any other state.
Her and the mayor need to be commited somebody help them.
Amazing how she just told the world that SHE is the authority who levels mandatory, forced evacuations.
Sometimes just sitting back and watching the unethical and immoral become lost in their own web of deceit is a beautiful thing.
