Blanco rescinds Nagin evacuation order - my title
9/7/05 | me

Posted on 09/07/2005 2:30:30 PM PDT by BurbankKarl

Governor Blanco just said on Fox News Channel that Mayor Nagin does not have the authority to order evacuation of New Orleans, that the authority rests with her....and she doesn't have evidence that it is unsafe!

I can't believe this is 2005. The 21st century.

I read an article the other day that said. Feds were in charge or something to that effect? Is that in Mississippi?

Unless it happened within the last few hours... NO.

The Governors of Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama are not stupid enough to turn over control to the Federal Government.

No matter how much I support President Bush... there is no way I want the Federal Government to supercede State Government. The U.S. Constitution limits Federal authority and that is the only reason we remain free citizens today.

The purpose of the Active Duty Military is NOT to protect the U.S. citizen. The purpose of the U.S. Military is to protect the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution and State Consitutions are the only protection the American citizen has.

You know, I was completely steamed at Nagin at the beginning, but as I see more of him and the situation, I think he's not such a bad guy. How long has he been mayor? His people were probably telling him (before the hurricane)the disaster plan preparation is ready and the response will be a "slam dunk" (does that ring painful bells?). I'm sure he began to slowly realize trusting in his subordinates was a HUGE mistake as events unfolded. He's changed his tune quite a bit and has said nothing that I know of as insensible recently. He's trying to get things done and it is my impression (it may be inaccurate) that he was in the trenches the whole time, it's just that his infrastructure was crumbling around him and Blank-O was not only not helping, but making matters worse. I think Nagin can handle the situation from here now that he finally knows ground truth about his infrastructure capabilities. It is true, I don't have many posts. I mostly just read the good stuff here. But this is one died-in-the-wool, die-hard Bush supporter. I think Nagin can be a very constructive influence if Blank-O will just get her A** out of the way.

Actually, when you call in the state you are giving authority over to them, your role becomes supportive no longer authoritative (meaning you no longer give the orders).

I believe in the end what we will all see is that the Response plans didn't work because people in authority didn't assume their proper roles....and it appears they still haven't. Too many roosters in the hen house syndrome.

I think every one of us that doesn't live in LA ought to get on hands and knees and thank God Blanco and nagin don't represent us.

Not that my Governor is better.

I tell ya, Blanco and Nagin really need to just duke it out now. I think HBO should put these two together in a ring, put the fight on pay-per-view, and send the donations to the Katrina victims. And I'm totally series.

Maybe they have a water bed (or barrels) full of water

Then by all means stay in your home and drink out of your waterbed. LMFAO

There are times to stay and to leave. By most estimates, the city is screwed. Would be best if everyone just cleared out until it was cleaned up. I'm sure other places have waterbeds you could drink from.

Mississippi and Alabama turned their guard over, from what I read.

You almost have to wonder whether Blanco is getting her marching orders from NOW. It is not implausible to think some feminist group is telling her, "You can't let these men, especially one below you in the chain of command, override your authority, no matter how stupid a decision you would have to make."

"I can't believe this is 2005. The 21st century."

Why not? While technology has changed and changed our society in many ways, humans and their human ruler are much as they always have been throughout recorded history. If anything, we are MUCH more humane than any previous point in history that I can point to.

I don't know about federal charges, but I think the state of LA can get her on about 10000000 different things by now....

Good Lord the Mayor tries to actually do the right thing, albeit really late, and she does an end-around on him?

typcical Democrat LOL

I seriously think the DNC is advising her, knowing no matter how bad it gets, they can just blame Bush and the GOP for it.

Oh, I'm with ya on that. It must have been a headline or something, and I interpreted it wrong. For some reason I though the Fed were taking over the recovery hell weren't they screaming for the feds to come and do something? Now they are there and they won't let them work? Maybe the Governor wants to hold their hand?

"Now do you guys believe that she never asked the feds to take over?"

Good. Now she can take full responsibility for what happened. Reid and Hillary can investigate her.

You missed the whole point, and I'm afraid that explaining it to you would be a effort in futility. All hail the nanny state! She knows best!

Bush can't win no matter what he does, had he asserted his power, he'd be called a Texan Cowboy.

Which is what he should have done, was lasso the idiots, put duck tape and go on about salvaging NO if that was even possible. Our President sure has alot of patience to deal with not only the crisis but with tom-dick and harry that has to put their two-cents worth.
